Opening for the position of Associate Professor in International Agriculture and Food Economics

The Faculty of Agriculture and Life Science at Hirosaki University is pleased to announce a job opening for an associate professor position at the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture in

(1) Hiring Conditions

1) Specialization: Agricultural Economics

2) Eligibility: Individuals satisfying the following requirements are eligible.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. (or an equivalent degree from outside Japan) and demonstrate exceptional research and teaching abilities.

The candidate must have teaching experience, and must have published at least ten publications or original papers and review papers in academic journals, at least three of which were published within the past five years.

The candidate must have obtained at least five years of experience in either research or teaching since completing the course credits for the doctorate program to the time of hiring for this position. If the candidate has completed only a bachelor’s or master’s degree, the years of research and education experience must be approved as equivalent to completion of a doctoral degree.

3) Prints or copies of up to 20 major publications including books, original articles, and review articles

1 . The education courses offered by the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture include

Agriculture and Horticulture course and Agricultural Economics course.

2 . The Agricultural Economics course is based on fundamental education in International Agricultural and Food Economics, Farm management, Environmental and Biomass Economics, and Rural

Sociology.

3 . The hired candidate is expected to teach specialized undergraduate education courses (International

Agriculture Theory, Theory of Cooperatives , English for Science, Seminar in Agriculture and

Horticulture, Field Work Practice, Internship, Seminar of Food and Agricultural Economics,

Graduation Research, etc.), 21 st Century education courses (fundamental seminars, fundamental education courses, theme-based courses, etc.) and graduate courses ( Regional Cooperatives , courses in each specialization area, Special Research, Problem-Specific Research, Special

Practices, etc.). For some of these courses, the teaching workload may be split between several professors.

In addition, it is highly desirable for the candidate to be a native speaker of English or have the ability to give lectures in English.

In the case of a foreigner, the candidate must possess Japanese language skills needed for daily business operations.

5 . Our Faculty is part of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Iwate University, whichoffers a doctorate degree and is a consortium with Iwate University, Yamagata University, and Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. The hired candidate must pass a qualification screening process to be part of the faculty of the United Graduate School and to supervise doctorate students.

6 . The Faculty may ask candidates to participate in oral interviews or present their research. In such cases, travel expenses are the candidate’s responsibility.
