Chores, Chores,
Chores
All Anglo-Saxon
people have been working
and doing chores for their
entire life. The women work
in a one room home with a
hearth, cooking pot, heat
and light from the hearth’s
fire. They make wool into
thread by using a loom. The
men would work in the field
or at a job in the town.
Some of the jobs were
smiths, woodworkers,
potters, shoemakers, and
jewelers. The smiths make
iron tools, knives, and
swords. Woodworkers make
bowls, furniture, carts, and
wheels. Potters made clay to
make pots with. The
shoemakers make leather
shoes, and jewelers make
brooches, beads, and gold
ornaments for the wealthy.
Jobs and chores are
important to the AngloSaxon village and life.

die for their leader. The

English monasteries for
gold, and we fought back

Magic Works like a
Charm!
Magic is believed to cure
the sick and protect from
evil spirits. Charms are used
in the Anglo-Saxon pagan
religion as a magical object
or words, to protect a
person from harm, or evil
spirits. When somebody
dies, the bodies are either
cremated or buried in their
grave with their belongings.
Augustine, the monk, was
given credit for bringing
Christianity to the AngloSaxons. A famous monk
named Bede became a
monk at seven years old. He
wrote a book about the
history of Anglo-Saxons
called “A History of the
English Church and people.
The Anglo-Saxons believe
that magic will cure any
sickness, and protect a
person from harm or evil.
