Desire To Learn (D2L) - Course management platform used as
enhancement for all courses online and face-to-face. Maintains
assignment drop boxes, content articles, course schedules,
discussion boards, course blogs, quizzing, testing, grade book and
emailing.
Facebook- An interactive social platform for candidates to
communicate course aims and upload documents, video and/or
pictures.
YouTube- Online social space used to deposit video
presentations and taped lectures
Millersville Email Platform- Everyone on campus has their own
MU email address ensuring direct communication between
faculty and candidates.
Request It and EZBorrow- The library’s online interlibrary loan
system for candidates to access written sources from the faculty
throughout the local library and PASSHE systems.
Articles and Databases- University subscriptions to scholarly
documents; used for course research. The faculty downloads and
assigns articles from these databases for in-class discussion and
homework; to be accessed through D2L.
Microsoft Office Suite- Available on all campus computers
including Power Point, Word and Excel; the most prevalently
used programs across the PEU and used by candidates and
faculty to produce oral presentations, slideshows, and homework
assignments.
Apple Products- Mac office suite, applications and real-time
players available on some campus computers.
Computer Labs- The University is equipped with 15 Microsoft and
Mac- based computer labs throughout campus and often used by
PEU courses to enhance classroom discussion.
A Projector, Screens, DVD and CD Players- Every PEU classroom
has a tech-cart that is used by faculty to project PowerPoint
presentation lectures and relevant video material.
Student Teacher and Faculty Instructional Technology ShowcaseAn annual event that highlights the work of innovative faculty
who created lessons that incorporated technology in authentic
and pedagogically sound ways. Lessons are selected to
demonstrate how technology can be used to support candidates’
learning in a variety of different content areas and levels.
Keystone Innovation Grant on Information Technology- Former
dean, Dr. Jane Bray and two faculty members served as
investigators to explore the possibilities of making the PEU’s

comprehensive web-based assessment system portable and
marketable to other NCATE accredited higher education
institutions. The PEU created its own assessment system to
facilitate the gathering of performance data for self studies and
program improvement.
Digital Learning Studio (DLS) - A technology initiative established
to support pedagogy. Under the guidance and leadership of a
faculty director, the DLS provides opportunities for candidates to
work collaboratively on projects and have hands-on experiences
with a variety of new technological equipment. Faculty and
student tutoring is available in a variety of different instructions.
The DLS concept has been used in the renovated library for
easier access to technology to incorporate in teaching.
IPads- Were distributed to candidates in the Professional
Development System to support collaborative classroom
research initiatives focusing on student learning. They will be
used to gather data and support classroom instruction.
Vernier Sensors- Electronically collect experiment data.
ADInstruments- Software and instrument system for physiology.
Nanospec- DNA analysis magnification.
Geographical Information System (GIS)- Software for field and
laboratory exercises.
SIMBIO- Demonstrates population genetics and natural selection.
Cornell Lab of Ornithology- Online Source used by faculty to
identify birds in fieldwork.
LearnSmart Modules, MCGraw-Hill- Online homework
assignment platform.
iClicker2- cell phone-based anonymous in-class polling system
Apple-Based Learning Applications
Echo Pen Livescribe PenCasts- used to create audio-visual
presentations with real-time capability
Grade Mark- Turnitin.com- based grading system
Flipped Classroom- Blended learning technology for online
instruction- in Fall 2012 two faculty members implemented a
project in three elementary schools. In this pilot project,
Millersville candidates were partnered with classrooms to
develop instructional videos to support the elementary school
students’ learning through the "flipped classroom" concept. The
concept is intended to leverage technology-based instruction to
free classroom time to incorporate more collaborative, higher
order activities and allow for more individualization and
remediation.
Clickers- Various in-class electronic response systems.
Screenflow- Mac-based software for video publishing.
