Art 1 Shape/Texture Project Name_______________________ GOAL: Create an expressive work of art that is personal to you using shapes and textures. VOCABULARY: SHAPE is a closed line. Has height and width. 2-D FORM has height, width, & depth. 3-D. Use a light source and shadows to define. GEOMETRIC: ORGANIC: VISUAL TEXTURE: TACTILE TEXTURE: Collage- A work of formal art, primarily in the visual arts, made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. Assemblage- Work of art made from putting together various pieces DIRECTIONS: Sketches: You may create a scene of a favorite memory, or a collection of your favorite objects. Remember to pick something you are interested in to ensure that not only you, but also the viewer understands something about you. You must have a background, middle ground, and foreground that include a subject. Start with a line drawing of your objects or scene, and create shapes to construct your image with collaged paper. Work from the background to the foreground. Create three sketches with different compositions checked. This ensures a dynamic composition. Project Paper: Gathering textures and collaging. Create a line drawing of your composition. When you are satisfied with your line drawing, trace your different shapes onto printer paper. If you have an area that stretches the long length of your paper, you will have to use two pieces and creatively connect them when you collage. Refer to your texture squares to figure out what textures will match your images best. Pick a color palette that suits your expressive mood and create rubbings on your printer papers. Cut and glue background shapes first and work your way to the middle and foreground. For seams: cut along the texture to avoid straight edges that stick out on your project. Watercolor: Make sure you have brushes, pigments, palette, a paper towel, and test paper. Mix colors on your palette and test in your sketchbook or test paper. Use the techniques we practiced in class to apply watercolors: washes for large areas, bleeding where you want to mix colors, salt (if you have no wax resist). Layer watercolors of different colors and values to make more intense or create a darker value. Objectively assess yourself by circling what grade you think you earned for each bullet point within each criteria.
