It is accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and the CEEB Code is 491-100. The student body is predominately white. Approximately 74% of last year’s graduating class is pursuing college degrees; 67% are considering four-year programs. Frankfort High School is located on the West Virginia-Maryland border, approximately 8 miles from Cumberland, MD. The Frankfort School District encompasses the communities of Fort Ashby, Ridgeley, Short Gap and Wiley Ford. The majority of parents are employed in the manufacturing, engineering, corrections or healthcare fields. Economically, the area would be rated as average. The low crime rate, high employment, and low cost-of-living factors make the area an attractive community. CLUBS Frankfort HS Clubs include: National Honor Society, FCCLA, Mu Alpha Theta, National Art Honor Society, RAZE, SMILE, Student Council, Youth Alive, Leo Club, and Falcon Fanatics. The Mineral County Technical Center Clubs include: National Technical Honor Society, DECA, FFA, HOSA and Skills USA. Co-curricular groups include: Marching Band and Concert Band. The Frankfort High School Marching Band was WV’s sole representative in the 2013 Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. SCHOOL HONORS COLLEGE COURSES Juniors and seniors having a 3.0 overall grade point average and the designated ACT or SAT score may enroll in courses offered by Potomac State College of West Virginia University. Composition and rhetoric, calculus, college algebra, psychology and European history are taught by Potomac State on the high school schedule. SPECIAL SERVICES A school nurse and psychologist are available as needed. Services for special learning needs are available through self-contained classrooms, collaborative classrooms, or on a consultation basis. STUDENT INVOLVEMENT Frankfort High School encourages participation in clubs, co-curricular activities, and sports to enhance the development of skills, cooperation and leadership. Frankfort High School has been awarded Exemplary Status as one of the top seven high schools in West Virginia for five years, most recently in 2012. 31% of the Frankfort High School Class of 2015 earned the PROMISE Scholarship. Frankfort High School graduates have earned other prestigious merit scholarships, including the WVU Foundation Presidential Scholarship, and a recent appointment to the US Naval Academy. Additionally, the school has produced outstanding teams for academic competitions. Athletically, Frankfort High School fields varsity teams in 13 sports. These teams have been competitive on local and state levels with several championships being won by teams and individuals. The Frankfort High School Girls Track Team won the state championship in 2013.
