SPA Executive Board Meeting
Date: October 8, 2015
Call To Order:
The meeting held in the SPA/ SGA Meeting Room and was called to order at 3:04 by Marisabel
Ponce Cordero, SPA President.

Great work during all the Homecoming events
Homecoming Breakfast and Dance was even better than last year with 914 in attendance
Alive@5, Homecoming BBQ, and Pirogue Races turned out great!
o We had massive support from several student organizations for several events,
especially Alive@5
Vice President- Brandon Bergeron

Robert’s Rules of Order—necessary procedures for an official SPA Executive Board
meeting reviewed by Brandon
o Concern brought to attention due to not following Robert’s Rules of Order when
voting on the Fletcher Lecture Series proposal
Secretary- Dalton Dodich


Still need to go through and format the email vote into minute format
o Just received these from Paul prior to the meeting
o Will have these ready for next week’s meeting
It is also important to notice that the SPA Executive Board did not meet for the following
meetings for the following reasons:
o September 10th, 2015: Leadership Workshop
 Board attended this in place of the regularly scheduled meeting
o October 1st, 2015: Alive@5

Planning a big tailgate for the LSU @ Nicholls baseball game

Sleeping Box event sponsored by RHA
o During Homeless Awareness Week
o Looking to do this in the field next to the library
o SPA is looking to provide hot chocolate for this event
o Date is sometime in November
Multicultural- Aditi KC


Diversity Week
o Still discussing events for Thursday and Friday
African American History Month
o Students asking for a band during February
Union Activities- Megan DeSoto

Halloweenies!
o Hot dog eating contest during Halloween Week
o Look for a proposal for this event next week
Entertainment- Saidy Hebert


Waivers for Bounce-Around inflatables at Family Day
Committee is considering Try Guys for Comedy Night
o Date is February 23rd

Will into getting the same DJ used at the Homecoming Breakfast for the Mardi Gras


Diversity Week
a. Mambo Monday (Dance Performance)
i. The motion to pass Mambo Monday at the cost $1000.0 coming out of the
Multicultural Budget was made by Marisabel.
1. The motion was seconded by Megan.
2. The motion passed with 10 in favor, no abstention, and no
opposition.
b. Celebrate Mexico
i. Purchasing a mechanical bull
ii. The motion to pass Celebrate Mexico at the cost of $1,200 coming out of
the Multicultural budget was made by Marisabel.



1. The motion was seconded by Fernanda.
2. The motion passed with 10 in favor, no abstention, and no
opposition.
c. Celebrate Southeast Asia
i. The motion to pass Celebrate Asia at no cost was made by Marisabel.
1. The motion was seconded by Megan.
2. The motion passed with 10 in favor, no abstention, and no
opposition.
Welcome Week/ First 30 Days
a. How would everyone feel about offering a “Welcome Back Day” type of event in
the spring semester for students?
b. Departments and student organizations across campus would be asked to
participate in this event
i. Our portion of the event would fall under the Union Activities committee
1. This would also be part of our First 30 Days activities
ii. Planning on having a mixture of academic and fun events throughout the
week
c. Would this event be a week-long event or a single day event?
i. This would be a week-long series of events
d. SPA is planning on budgeting $4,000 for this event
e. The motion to allocate $4,000 to the Union Activities budget for the purpose of
holding Welcome Week/ First 30 Days during the Spring 2016 semester was
made by Brandon.
1. The motion was seconded by Marisabel.
2. The motion passed with 10 in favor, no abstention, and no
opposition.
Fletcher Lecture Series
a. The initial vote was made online via Facebook
b. The proposal was passed but NOT with a majority vote; therefore, invalid
c. The motion to pass the Fletcher Lecture Series at the cost of $630 coming out of
the Generally Programming budget was made by Marisabel.
1. The motion was seconded by Fernanda
2. The motion passed with 9 in favor, no abstention, and no
opposition.
Family Day
a. The motion to purchase several inflatables for Family Day at the cost of $1,420
coming out of the Entertainment budget was made by Brandon.
1. The motion was seconded by Fernanda.
2. The motion passed with 9 in favor, no abstention, and no
opposition.

Tailgating Items
a. SPA is looking to purchase hamburgers and hotdogs for the next three upcoming
home football games.
b. The motion to purchase numerous tailgating items at the cost of $1,000 coming
out of the General Programming budget was made by Brandon.
1. The motion was seconded by Taylor.
2. The motion passed with 10 in favor, no abstention, and no
opposition.

African American
a. The motion to pass the allocation of $5,000 to sponsor the band for African
American History for the Spring 2016 semester coming out of the Multicultural
budget was made by Aditi.
i. The motion was seconded by Amber.
ii. The motion was passed with 9 in favor, no abstention, and no opposition.
