Introduction to Sponsored Projects Accounting Navigating the University: Research & Resources Management Retreat August 19, 2014 SPA Mission • • • • The mission of Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA) is to oversee post award financial administration of sponsored research for the University. Effectively manage awards for compliance with Federal, State, and Private agency fiscal and reporting guidelines, University policy and procedures, and with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Ensure the payment of obligations and the collection of funds with an efficient cash management system. Encourage and facilitate proper management of sponsored funds through training and development, streamlined financial systems, and high professional standards. SPA Structure What Does SPA Do? • Financial Management of Awards: • SPA works closely with your college/department post award office, DCG, Procurement, Payroll, Equipment Management and OFA • SPA works on coordinating all post-award activities, such as budget, revisions, financial reporting, and closing accounts for completed projects, grants, and contracts. • Financial Reporting: • SPA submits required financial reports to sponsor working in conjunction with departments and PIs.
