India Hook Elementary Car Rider Drop Off and Pick Up September 10, 2015 Q&A In the morning, what time should I drop off so my child is not late? As you have seen, we have many cars dropping off in the morning. Our doors open at 7:00, and instruction begins at 7:45. Breakfast is served from 7:00-7:30. Our lines are longest between 7:30 and 7:40, so please try to drop off by 7:30 to allow your child time to get to class and get settled. At 7:40, safety patrol members are dismissed from the car circle in order for them to be in their classrooms by 7:45. At 7:45, the front door is locked, even if there is a line remaining. At this point, parents need to park in the front lot and walk your child into the main office. (The only time we will allow children in after 7:45 without a late pass is if there is an accident or inclement weather that disrupts our traffic flow.) Late is late and will be recorded as a tardy whether it is 2 minutes or 20 minutes. Why do we not unload double lines in the morning? We have two staff members whose work schedule includes 30 minutes of duty outside during the morning along with safety patrol members. Teachers are inside supervising students in the hallways and classrooms. Teachers have one morning duty per week. On other days, their workday begins at 7:30. Because we do not have at least 6 adults as we do in the afternoon it would be unsafe to unload cars on the crosswalk side and have them cross over. Please do not pass others on the curbside in the morning even if your kids have already gotten out. Safety is our top concern. Please be patient. Why do I have to sign my child in if I am only a few minutes late? Safety. If there is not an adult on duty, then a child could wonder off or leave with someone that should not have them. Is it OK to drop off at the back circle (bus lot) if that is more convenient for me or I am running late? No. It is against state law for us to mix our buses with cars. This is our bus drop off point. All car riders should be dropped off at the front entrance by 7:40. How does afternoon car pickup work? Parents remain in cars. Staff members and safety patrol members escort riders to the cars. Crosswalk is used until 2:45 for students who can load from the inside circle. If your child must enter on the right passenger side, you MUST pick up on curbside. It is unsafe for our students and staff to walk between vehicles. What time does crosswalk pickup close? 2:45 Please remain in single file line if it is raining or after 2:45. What time is dismissal? 2:25 By what time should I have picked up my child? 2:45 What should I do if I am running a few minutes late? Call the front office and let us know. What should I do if I will not be able to pickup within 30 minutes of dismissal? Arrange another ride for your child. What does rainy day or snowy day dismissal look like? We will dismiss from inside and only load on the curbside. Please be patient on these days and remain in your car. How can I help keep all students safe at drop off and pick up? Be patient. Don’t pass other cars. Turn off cell phones and turn down radio /music as you enter our traffic circle. Encourage your child to pay attention to the adults supervising dismissal.
