JOB DESCRIPTION
 Participation & Development Coordinator
 0.8 FTE - 4 days (30.4 hours) per week
 $30 - $35 per hour, classified under the SCHADS Award at Employment Level 4 YACVic pays above award rates
 Fixed-term contract until 30 September 2016, with potential to be ongoing,
subject to funding.
 Based in Melbourne CBD, with occasional metropolitan and regional travel.
YOUTH AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF VICTORIA
The Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVic) is the peak body and leading policy
advocate on young people's issues in Victoria. YACVic’s vision is that young
Victorians have their rights upheld and are valued as active participants in their
communities.
YACVic is an independent, not-for-profit, member driven organisation that represents
young people (aged 12-25 years) and the sector that works with them. We advocate
on behalf of our members by making representations to government and in the
media, convening meetings of our members and sharing information. YACVic is
governed by a volunteer Board, up to half of whom are young people, and is run by a
core secretariat. Our work is primarily funded by the Victorian Government Office for
Youth. YACVic provides services, including YACVic Rural and the Youth Disability
Advocacy Service (YDAS) and auspices and supports partner agencies, including
the Koorie Youth Council (KYC) and the Victorian Student Representative Council
(VicSRC).
YACVic promotes the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all children and young
people, including those with a disability, those who are Aboriginal or those from
refugee or migrant backgrounds.
The Participation & Development Coordinator (PDC) is a unique role in the
organisation. The PDC ensures YACVic’s commitment to youth participation,
membership involvement and sector support is enacted throughout the organisation,
the sector and the wider community.
MAJOR DUTIES
1. Work with YACVic’s members and the Deputy CEO to design and implement new
member participation opportunities in line with YACVic’s 2016-19 Strategic Plan.
2. Support and resource YACVic’s young members. For example:
 attend Youth Reference Group (YRG) meetings one Saturday per month and
follow up on issues and actions between meetings;
 mentor and support young members to design and participate in projects and
activities relevant to the overall work of YACVic.
3. Promote and facilitate training for youth workers, organisations and community
groups on youth participation and the Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian
Youth Sector, and administer a YACVic training calendar.
4. Work with YACVic Rural Development Coordinators to organise and facilitate
relevant training and events in rural and regional areas.
5. Convene and participate in the Youth Participation Practice Network and other
YACVic events and forums as required.
6. Promote YACVic activities and membership to young people, students, youth
workers and organisations by delivering workshops and presentations,
participating in meetings and community groups as appropriate.
7. Work within the youth sector to strengthen relationships and networks that feed
into YACVic’s policy development work.
8. Respond to email and phone inquiries regarding the information needs of YACVic
members, the youth sector and the public.
9. Attend regular staff meetings and participate as a member of the staff team.
10. Carry out any other duties senior managers may assign to you, having regard to
your skills, training and experience.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Demonstrated experience in in the youth/community sector and a tertiary
qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. youth work, community development,
social science).
2. Demonstrated ability to work with young people within a youth participation
framework.
3. Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with
children and young people from diverse backgrounds and commitment to the
Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian Youth Sector.
4. Excellent group facilitation skills with demonstrated experience of leading group
training or professional development.
5. Demonstrated understanding of the Victorian youth sector and YACVic’s role as
the youth peak body.
6. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships
and networks.
7. Excellent communication skills, including confidence in public speaking and the
ability to facilitate workshops and meetings.
8. Willingness to work occasionally on weekends and evenings, and to travel
regionally and rurally.
9. A current Victorian driver’s licence.

The majority of the hours of this position will be worked between the hours of 8:00am
and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday with some weekend work and travel.
The initial 3 months are offered on a probationary basis with review at the end of that
time. The position is subject to a performance appraisal process.

and a Police Check.
