The Service:
The structure:
Central Gippsland Health Service (CGHS) is the
major provider of health and residential aged
care services in Wellington Shire, covering
virtually the entire municipality with the
exception of Yarram and district.
CGHS Acute Care Division provides acute care
as part of an integrated service delivery model
across Wellington Shire and beyond. The
service provides 74 acute beds across three
campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield).
Acute services include General Surgical plus
specialties such as Orthopaedics, Urology, Eye,
Ear, Nose and Throat, Gynaecology, General
Medical with specialty supports for
Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Cardiac and
Critical Care Services, Obstetrics (including
Domiciliary Midwifery and Antenatal PreAdmission Services), Level 2 Neonatal Nursery,
and Paediatrics. Acute Services also
incorporates HITH.
CGHS Medical Imaging Department provides a
wide range of imaging services including,
general x-ray, ultrasound, bone density
scanning, CT and nuclear medicine. MRI is also
provided onsite 2 days per week via a mobile
service. The department is very well equipped
and boasts a 64 Slice CT scanner and a new
gamma camera. CGHS also operates medical
imaging services at Yarram and Fulham
correctional centre.
The medical imaging unit earns over $4M in
revenue per annum and is an important
business unit within the health service.

The position is operational level reporting to the Manager, Medical Imaging who is a middle manager
with sufficient delegation to enable the effective and efficient administration and management of
the department.
The work context:
The Sonographer/Radiographer operates in a complex environment characterized by a need:
 To work as part of a large multidisciplinary team that provides services across a broad range of
acute, emergency, inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation, palliative, primary health and
community support services.

The purpose of the position:
Provide effective ultrasound and radiography services for patients/clients of the medical imaging
department of Central Gippsland Health Service
The key responsibilities of the role:
Responsibilities include:

Provide medical imaging services consistent with your qualifications, capability and service
To be a part of the medical imaging on call roster as required
Meet continuing professional development criteria for as required for a radiographer and
sonographer
Support a culture of excellence, ethical conduct, and inter-disciplinary collaboration
Support the Manager, Medical Imaging with the implementation of CGHS policies and
procedures as they relate to medical imaging services.
Ensure the Manager, Medical Imaging is informed of any practices that may inhibit the delivery
of a high standard of patient/client care
Actively participate in quality activities and accreditation processes in accordance with
standard practice.
Manage OH&S consistent with overall OH&S programs, policies and procedures within CGHS
and also: look after your own health; look out for the health and safety of others in the
workplace; follow safe work practices; report hazards and injuries; participate in agency health
promotion initiatives and support healthy lifestyle choices for staff
Contribute extensively to the development of an annual capability development plan designed
to support you to:
o achieve your personal goals and objectives;
o live ethically within your personal value system; and
o enthusiastically support CGHS to achieve our strategic and service delivery goals and
objectives
Support patient, client and community participation in decisions in all aspects of the service
Work within agency policies, procedures and code of conduct
Participate in mandatory education as it relates to your specific roles and responsibilities. This
may include:

and in particular provide a supportive environment and
practical supports for CALD people requiring medical
imaging services.

Qualifications:




Hold, or be eligible for Registration as a Medical Imaging Practitioner with the Medical Radiation
Practitioners Board of Victoria.
Post graduate Qualification in Ultrasonography or equivalent
Unrestricted Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry Registration
Nuchal Translucency Accreditation advantageous
Eligible for Australian Institute of Radiology membership
