FACULTY OF COMMUNITY AND HEALTH SCIENCES RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM THURSDAY, 16 October 2014 INVITATION AND CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FCHS – RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM Faculty Community and Health Science Research Symposium The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences, University of the Western Cape will be hosting a research symposium for all researchers in the faculty to showcase the research being conducted and to give you the opportunity to present your work to colleagues and expand your network. We invite you to participate in this Research Symposium which will attempt to platform research pertinent and valuable to healthcare practitioners in the area of community and health science research. Date: Thursday, 16 October 2014 Venue: SOPH Time: 08H30 – 16H30 Departments offering postgraduate programmes are invited to submit abstracts of student work for poster presentations and staff research work for platform presentations. Presentations will be adjudicated by a panel of researchers and the presenters/s of the best poster and paper presentation in identified categories will be awarded cash prizes. Guidelines and format for Abstracts Use Arial 12 point font throughout Themes: 1. Social determinants for health/disease 2. Sport rehab development 3. Wellness/ wellbeing through the life span 4. Teaching and Learning Title: In bold type and upper case (capitals) Authors: Surname followed by initials; do not include titles (Bold and Underline the presenter’s name). Affiliation: Department, Centre or Unit Use * and # symbols to match affiliation with author Abstract: Please fit into the frame. 250 words max. Aim(s): Clearly state the purpose(s) of the study Methods: Clearly state how your study was conducted, sample selection, tools and instruments used Results: Present your results in a logical sequence Discussion/Conclusion: Emphasize new and important aspects of the study and conclusions that are drawn from them. Please indicate the appropriate theme for your abstract.
