Graduate Research Symposium 2015 GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING AN ABSTRACT A program that includes the abstract titles of each presentation will be distributed to all attendees of the Graduate Research Symposium. Full abstracts will be available on line. Thus, it is important that the abstract is thorough and accurate. The abstract represents a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of the poster. It allows the reader to review the purpose of the research, methods used by the researcher, results and implications emerging from the investigations. As such, it is important that the abstract reflects the main points from each section of the poster mentioned above. Generally, abstracts are approximately 120 words (960 characters which includes spaces between words) and are written in such a way that characters are conserved. Thus, abbreviations are allowed if the meaning is obvious (e.g. "vs." for "versus") and digits can be used for numbers (e.g. "9" rather than "nine"). A sample of the abstract format is found below. Please follow the formatting of this page exactly; i.e., the title, author, sponsor, department, and the word 'abstract' should be centered. Additionally, the text of the abstract should be double-spaced. Although MS Word is the preferred processing tool for submitting abstracts, any file created with other word processing software can easily be translated to Microsoft Word in any of the computer labs on campus is acceptable. Otherwise, please go to the computer labs and type the abstract using the appropriate software. Since the abstracts are brief, this option can be accomplished in a short period of time. Submit your abstract via e-mail attachment to your faculty advisor. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Friday April 10th.
