Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience Special Issue Cloud Computing and Big Data: Technologies and Applications Aims and Scope Cloud computing has gained great attention from both academia and IT industry as a new infrastructure requiring smaller investments in hardware platform, staff training, or licensing new software tools. Itis recognized by the community as a platform forbigdata storage and processing. Recent surveys stated that cloud computing will play an important role as it provides organizations with the ability to analyze and store data economically and efficiently. For example, remotely processing data was introduced as data has started to be migrated and managed in the cloud. For example, Digital Communications Inc. (DCI) stated that by 2020, a significant portion of digital data will be managed in the cloud, and even if a byte in the digital universe is not stored in the cloud, it will pass, at some point, through the cloud. Many solutions have been proposed and developed to improve computation performance of Big Data. Some of them tend to improve algorithms efficiency, provide new distributed paradigms or develop powerful processing infrastructures. This special issue aims at reporting the state of the art, the research challenges and the available solutions and relevant activities in the design of architectures, algorithms, and applications in the context of cloud computing and high performance processing of Big Data. Topics The special issue intended to focus on the above issues and solicited papers that address theoretical and experimental work related to cloud computing and Big Data. Papers are solicited from, but are not limited to, the following topics: Architectures for Big Data/Cloud Cloud Architectures and Applications Cloud Security and Privacy Cloud Energy Efficiency Datacenter and Big Data in the Cloud Mobile & Social Cloud, Cloud Solutions and Applications High-Performance Mining of Big Data Machine learning algorithms for text analysis Opinion mining/sentiment analysis methods HPC and cloud computing Important dates Abstract Submission: -----------------------------------July 1st, 2015 Guest Editors Reply: ------------------------------------July 15, 2015 Paper Submissions: --------------------------------------October 15, 2015 1st Notifications and Reviewers Comments: -------- January 15, 2016 1st Revision Submission: ------------------------------ -March 15, 2016 2nd Notifications and Reviewers Comments: --------June 15, 2016 2nd Revision Submission: ------------------------------August 15, 2016 Final Notifications: --------------------------------------September 15, 2016 Accepted papers are expected to appear in the 4th Quarter of 2016 (Tentative).
