Who is the course for? Adults with an interest in the subject of patchwork. Course description (This will be displayed on the WEA website. Summarise the course and its content in 40 words or fewer). On this course we are going to look in depth at the subject of fabric manipulations, taking in Cathedral windows, Suffolk puffs, Japanese folded patchwork, plus machine quilting, You may also pursue your own patchwork project with an expert Tutors guidance. What topics will this course cover and how will they relate to the theme(s) for this course? Manipulating fabric the English way , Suffolk puffs, Japanese folded patchwork, Machine quilting What will it be like? WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class. By the end of the course I should be able to: 1. Make a cathedral window block 2. Japanese Envelope Patchwork 3. Suffolk Puffs 4. Sample of Free Machine quilting How will I know I’m making progress? Tutor feed-back, and samples in your folder of the various techniques, and blocks made up into small cushions, or bags. What else do I need to know, do or bring? a general sewing kit, if you’re working on your own project thread to match your fabric, sharp fabric scissors, and small sharp scissors’ I can supply some calico for samples at a very reasonable cost Reading and information sources Patchwork and Quilting magazines, books on the subject from the library What could the course lead to?
