Financial support
People on most income-related benefits and their dependants may be entitled to have their
tuition fees waived or reduced. Fee waiver may also depend on the type of course being
studied.
In addition, there are some available funds to help with the cost of accreditation fees, books,
essential equipment/materials, travel and childcare. Be prepared to be asked for evidence of
financial hardship, such as reliance on income-related benefits, low household income
(usually below £15,276 p.a.) or evidence of difficulty in balancing income and expenditure.
NB these are strictly limited funds and therefore not every assessed claim will be successful.
Contact your Regional Office for more information and advice.
Adult Learning Grants
If you are studying for 12 hours p.w. or more (or 450 study hours in the year) you may be
entitled to an Adult Learning Grant of up to £30 p.w. Ring the national Learner Support

Learning Agreement and Learner Code of Conduct
When you enrol with the WEA you will enter into a Learning Agreement with us. This is
printed on your Enrolment Form. There is also a Learner Code of Conduct. Together, these
set out the WEA’s responsibilities and your own responsibilities for creating a positive
learning environment (such as regular class attendance).
You can download both the Learning Agreement and the Learner Code of Conduct from our
website at www.wea.org.uk/policies. The Learner Code of Conduct is also reproduced in the
universal student leaflet, Services for Learners. Alternatively, ask a member of the WEA
staff or contact your Regional Office.
If your course leads to a qualification
