Pupil Premium Report
September 2015 – September 2016
Overview of Pupil Premium Funding for 2015 – 2016
Pupil Premium Funding is received from central government according to the number of students on roll
who are or have been eligible for Free School Meals or who have been ‘looked after’. The Pupil Premium
grant is £935 per student and is expected to total £366,520.00 for the academy in 2015/16.
At the academy 40% of all students are currently eligible for Free School Meals (pupil census: January 2015).
The Pupil Premium funding includes all students who have been eligible for Free School Meals in the last 6
years. This is known as the ‘Ever 6’ measure. Currently 392 students are eligible for Free School meals in
years 7 – 11, including the ‘Ever 6’ measure in the January 2015 census. This indicates that many of our
families are subject to periodic low income levels or do not always claim Free School Meals to which their
children are entitled. The January 2015 census is driving funding for the Pupil Premium grant.
Year 7 Catch Up Premium
We receive funding of £500 per student for those Year 7 students who attain less than level 4 in reading
and/or mathematics at Key Stage 2. This support ensures that they ‘catch up’ with their peers and reach the
required National Curriculum level/s. Schools and academies are free to decide how best to achieve this and
how the £500 per student is to be spent (details are provided below).
In 2015/16 students will have access to a variety of reading, writing, spelling and punctuation programmes.
The academy has a full speech, language and communication screening programme, using Secondary Speech
Link. The academy employs a full time Speech and Language Therapist to work with those students who
have been identified with a language and communication difficulty and will also offer a range of strategies
for class teachers to use with their students in the classroom.
The English and Mathematics departments have purchased a variety of work books for use in any class. We
have also employed extra support staff for one to one/small group work, in which there is a focus on
improving literacy and numeracy skills across all subjects.
Students who are Looked After (LAC)
Funding for Looked After students are included in the Pupil Premium funding and the academy decides how
best to spend this funding in order to continue to narrow the gap for such students. To date we have
identified students who have access to one to one tutoring and laptops to enable work to be completed at
home. Further provisions are accessed, when required, in school – including counsellors, motivational
speakers and school visits to enhance learning.
Outcomes for Pupil Premium eligible students
2015 examination results indicate that attainment amongst those eligible for Pupil Premium is strong and
showed 98.53% gaining 5 or more A*- G GCSEs and 42.65% gaining 5 or more A* - C GCSEs.
