Madison County’s Promise IMPACT Meeting February 21, 2012 6:30p.m. – Church on the Rock, Oneida, NY Present: Linda Boylan (Chair), Ruth Bohm, Faith Musachio (Church on the Rock), Jeff Leheay (Church on the Rock), Tina Louis (Youth Bureau), Cassondra Eyster (Church of the Nazarene), Sarah Howell (MCP) I. II. III. Minutes were reviewed and accepted What do we want to see IMPACT be? a. Sarah mentioned that IMPACT attendance has been rather sparse in the past few months, and asked the group what they would like to see IMPACT become. b. Ruth noted that she thought IMPACT was getting a bit stagnant. c. Jeff said that instead of casting a wide net and only coming up with a few takers we should use our connections and focus in on the youth leaders/pastors we know to draw them in. i. One suggestion that was made was to have the committee create a “speakers bureau” that has a list of topics IMPACT members are well versed on and could speak on, and promote this to area churches. ii. Another suggestion was to write up what IMPACT really is and work to speak to area churches/congregations to achieve more participation. Spring Series a. Sarah mentioned an idea that Linda, Jeff, and Tina had come up with, that IMPACT could do a two part series on recruitment to try and draw more people in. b. The committee liked this idea, however over the course of the discussion the topic changed from recruitment to several different topics with smaller periods of time dedicated to the presentations. For April’s meeting the committee decided on having Linda and possibly Diane talk about how they were successful in getting the Good News Club up and running in Canastota Schools. Sarah asked if she thought Charles and his wife Michelle would like to talk about working to get the 7-8th grade Good News club up and running. Linda will ask if this is something they would be interested in. Jeff said that he could do a small piece on their youth group, he will ask Dennis to talk with him. i. Jeff would also like his daughter Aubrina to come and talk about how she worked to form a lunch time bible study group with a group of students at her school. – The committee was very excited by this idea. ii. Each group would get approximately 15 minutes to talk about their piece, and then we could have 30-45 minutes for discussion. c. In May for the Networking Dinner Jeff thought we could reach out to Brookfield Bob and his youth group. He said he knows that they have a pretty successful group. Perhaps Bob could bring several youth and they could discuss the youth group, why they came to the group, and what has made them stay. Jeff will reach out to Bob and see if he is interested in this idea. d. Linda made the suggestion that we eat first and then hold the presentation following dinner. The committee thought this would be fine and agreed that it would probably be a better way to run the networking dinner. IV. V. e. The committee discussed the possible location of the events, and decided that it should be held at the same location both months. Tina will check on the First Presbyterian Church of Oneida to see if the space is open for both April and May. f. Promotion of the events was also discussed. The committee will send out newsletter style invitations for the event to draw people in. They will also reach out to people via personal connections to try and get more participation. Sarah will work on creating a mock newsletter invite for the March meeting. g. The committee also briefly discussed inviting the press to cover the events. Sarah can contact Aliana Potrikus from the Post Standard, and we can invite John Haeger from the Oneida Dispatch. Sarah will also run some press releases for the event. Announcements a. Sarah announced the Mock Oscars at the Kallet Theater in Oneida sponsored by Reality Check. This event was for students in grades 7-12. The event was held on February 25th from 7p.m.-11p.m. b.
