I volunteered to be on horse staff at a local church camp. Westminster Highlands in located just outside
of Emlenton. Every summer they have a horse camp and they travel to Rising Ranch.
Slide 4
Rising ranch is a family owned Christian horse ranch that is located in Slippery Rock Pennsylvania. It is
owned and operated by Clayton and Regan Lee.
I worked with 16 kids between the ages of 7-15 and 5 horses for a total of 20 hours. My job each day
was to get the horses ready for the kids. I also had to come up with lesson plans for each day. I taught
the kids how to ride and steer their horses on their own at both the walk and trot.
Slide 5
The children learned how to safely work with their horse’s feet and how to clean out their hooves.

Slide 6
They learned to properly lead and ride their horses through obstacles such as ground poles, tarps,
weaved barrels and cones at both the walk and trot. (explain pic)
Slide 7
All of the kids learned how to bath and groom their horses. (explain all 3 pics)
Slide 8
After they bathed their horses, they kids braided their mane and tail and competed in a grooming
contest. (explain pic)
Slide 9
English- helped me with my communication skills. I was able to properly explain to the children how to
ride and take care of a horse. I was
Biology- helped me understand what the veterinarian was talking about.
Slide 10(closing)
To conclude… This senior project helped me immensely in deciding what I want to do later on in life. I
want to pick a career that I enjoy. Without this project I would have jumped right into veterinary science
without knowing that it isn’t what I really want to do. I did, however, really enjoy teaching children
about horses. I am considering pursuing a career that has to do with people and horses… for instance a
therapeutic riding instructor. A therapeutic riding instructor teaches adults and children with disabilities
riding skills to help improve their communication, social and motor skills.
Thank you for your time. Do you have any questions?
