Habitat ReStore (970) 328-1119 751 Chambers Ave. Eagle, CO 81631 www.ReStoreVailValley.org ReStore Director: Tom McKay Tommckay@habitatvailvalley.org ReStore Manager: Kyle Aiton Kyle@habitatvailvalley.org Habitat ReStore 2013 Volunteer Facts & Information What happens at the Habitat ReStore? Our basic function is to re-sell donated items to the public in order to raise money for our local Habitat affiliate, helping build more houses in our community for local families. Volunteers assist in areas such as customer assistance & sales, inventory, receiving, display, donations pickup and more. What do I expect when I first volunteer? Your first inquiry/visit to the ReStore will give you the opportunity to meet with either the Director or Manager for around an hour to discuss the how/what/why/& when of Habitat ReStore volunteering. Your second day will get your feet wet, providing a 2-3 hour shift of observation and working directly with an HFH employee or experienced volunteer. Finally, after the basic training and orientation, you will have your first official “shift” with all the support you will need, giving you some real, hands-on volunteering with basic supervision. You will learn new skills and meet new people, and you will not be required to do things you are not comfortable doing. The ReStore Director & Manager will do their best to make sure you are in the area you can enjoy and excel while helping in the area that the ReStore needs the most. As you continue to learn and grow in your volunteer position, please share your ideas and thoughts; feedback is a great asset! Where is the ReStore located? In Eagle (exit 147) – go south from I-70, then turn left on Chambers. We are ¼ mile on the left behind the Eagle car wash. When are volunteers needed? Any time Monday through Saturday. How long is the work day? Many ReStore volunteers will work full days (9:306:00) and some will work shifts (9:30-2:00; 1:306:00). However, if you only have a few hours, we would still love to have you join us. Do I need experience in retail or construction? No. Just come with a willingness to learn. The ReStore manager and others will guide you through the tasks assigned. However if you do have retail or other experience (i.e. construction, plumbing, interior design), please let us know so that we may put you where your skills are best utilized. What should I wear? Please wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and modest clothing. Dress in layers so you can be comfortable in all conditions. Bring work gloves if you have them. What should I bring? Meals are not provided, so please bring enough food and beverages to sustain you throughout your shift. What if I can’t make it after all? If possible, please notify us of your scheduling change with 24 hours notice. The ReStore would not be successful without the dependability of our volunteers. Is there an age requirement? Children ages 9-13 must be accompanied by an adult, and all minors must have a parental waiver and medical release signed. Can I become a “regular” volunteer if I like it? Absolutely! We are delighted to train you as a regular volunteer if your interest, skill and desire suit the position. We can schedule you for the same day and time each week Are there other ways to help Habitat? Yes! Donate items to the ReStore, such as furniture, appliances, and construction materials. Proceeds from the sale of these items will help to build homes for neighbors in need. You can also donate directly to Habitat, where just $10 from every volunteer could help to build another house each year! How do I sign up? Call the ReStore at (970) 328-1119, sign-up online at http://www.habitatvailvalley.org/Volunteer or just stop in!
