denkmal Moscow 2013
International Trade Fair of Heritage Preservation, Restoration and Museum
Technology
(3–5 October 2013)
Leipzig, 18 March 2013
German pavilion at second denkmal Moscow in October
New venue: Artplay Design Center in Moscow
In less than seven months, denkmal Moscow 2013 – Russia’s foremost trade
show devoted to heritage preservation, restoration and museum technology –
will be hosted at the Artplay Design Centre from 3–5 October 2013. Once again,
the exhibition will concentrate all aspects of the preservation of cultural
treasures under one roof. denkmal Moscow is being hosted by die Leipziger
Messe International (a subsidiary of German trade fair corporation Leipziger
Messe) and the Moscow-based company Kultura i Nasledje (Culture & Heritage).
“We are delighted to be continuing our good cooperation with our Russian
partners. The debut of denkmal Moscow in autumn 2011 was successful. We will
tie in with the exhibition 2013 and develop further denkmal Moscow,” said
Markus Geisenberger, CEO of Leipziger Messe.
Being held for the second time in 2013, denkmal Moscow is aimed at building
contractors, specialist craftsmen, conservationists, heritage authorities, architects,
planners, museums, and private, church and public developers and investors. The
exhibition will showcase all the areas involved in the preservation of cultural heritage.
This includes the restoration of wood, paper, precious stones, paintings, bronze,
tombs, stone and ceramics as well as archaeology, museum equipment, and the
preservation of historical town centres, monasteries, convents and parks. Besides the
exhibition, a varied conference and seminar programme will provide an ideal forum for
expert debate.
New venue: Artplay
For the next denkmal Moscow, a venue has been found which couldn’t be more
suitable for the various strands of the exhibition. The Artplay Design Center, a former
factory complex, is a perfect example of the conversion of disused industrial
architecture. “This matches the key theme of the exhibition of the upcoming denkmal
Moscow – for in 2013, the trade show will again be focusing on the revamping and
repurposing of historical architecture under modern conditions,” explained Markus
Geisenberger, adding: “Conversion plays a particularly crucial role in Russia. That
emerged during the meetings and discussions during denkmal Moscow in 2011.”
Support from the German Ministry of Economics and Technology

The German Ministry of Economics and Technology has also pledged to lend its
support when denkmal Moscow is held in autumn 2013. Manufacturers, professional
craftspeople, restorers, service providers and architects will have the opportunity to
show their products and skills in a prestigious setting at the expo. Leipziger Messe
International will be organizing a subsidized pavilion for exhibitors from Germany. It is
doing so in collaboration with the ZDH German Confederation of Skilled Crafts and
Leipzig Chamber of Small Industries and Skilled Trades.
In addition, other national pavilions representing Poland, France and Italy are
expected.
denkmal Moscow modelled on denkmal Leipzig
The concept behind denkmal Moscow is based on the successful denkmal – the
European Trade Fair for Conservation Restoration and Old Building Renovation, which
has been held in Leipzig every two year since 1994, an international meeting place
which welcomes all those involved in the preservation of cultural heritage. However,
the areas covered at denkmal Moscow have been adapted to the specific needs of the
Russian market. For example, more emphasis is placed on the conversion of historical
buildings under modern conditions. denkmal Moscow also focuses on icon paintings
and the restoration of churches, monasteries and convents.
The Russian Federation was also the official partner country when denkmal was held
for the tenth time in 2012. Accordingly, Leipzig and Moscow enjoy a close relationship
which holds out the promise of continued positive collaboration. “The many
conversations with exhibitors and visitors at denkmal in Leipzig confirm the high
interest in denkmal Moscow. We can therefore look forward to what will doubtless be
another successful exhibition – especially given the ideal conditions afforded by the
Russian market,” declared Markus Geisenberger.
denkmal Moscow
denkmal Moscow is Russia’s first exhibition for heritage preservation, restoration and museum
technology. When held for the first time from 29 September to 1 October 2011, denkmal
Moscow was attended by 2,700 trade visitors from 15 countries keen to find out all about the
products and services relevant to heritage conservation displayed by the more than 60
exhibitors. Moreover, seminars, lectures and round table debates featuring leading Russian and
international experts increased the exhibition’s appeal. denkmal Moscow is organized by the
Moscow company Kultura i Nasledje (Culture & Heritage) and Leipziger Messe International, a
subsidiary of German trade fair company Leipziger Messe. The next denkmal Moscow will be
held at the Artplay Design Center from 3–5 October 2013.
