University Governance
o
Faculty Senate – Dr. Kathleen Shannon
i. The Faculty Senate meeting scheduled for October 21 was cancelled to allow
faculty members to use the time to schedule advising sessions with students.
ii. The Faculty Senate is currently receiving feedback from faculty on changing
the timeline for promotion and tenure. Previously the two procedures were
separate but if the candidate is eligible and prefers, they would be able to apply
for promotion at the same time as tenure with this new proposal.
iii. Faculty volunteers are being sought to serve either on a steering committee or
on a working group that the steering committee will form as it conducts a
comprehensive review and possible redesign of General Education.
o
Adjunct Faculty Caucus – Tim Robinson
i. On behalf of the Adjunct Faculty Caucus, Lt. Robinson offered appreciation of
the staff in Information Technology for their help in constructing contact lists
as well as setting up elections via MyClasses. Both Melissa Thomas and
Kevin Malone were particularly helpful.
ii. Lt. Robinson also commented that concerns with student populations that
reside in the community have lessened.
o
Staff Senate – Helena Hill
i. The Staff Senate is working with Human Resources to communicate changes to
health benefits during open enrollment.
ii. There is a drive to fill open Staff Senate positions.
iii. Nominations for the Board of Regents Staff Awards will soon be solicited.
Information will be sent via email soon.
o
Student Government Association – Christine Cocca
i. Christine provided a recap of the successful events during Homecoming and
Family Weekend.
ii. Recycle Madness takes place on October 23 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Last year
over 2000 pounds of recyclables were collected.
iii. The I Love Salisbury community clean up event will take place on November 8
from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Community members are encouraged to sign up as well as
student helpers.
iv. “Fill the Square” is a canned food drive where the SGA hopes to fill up Red
Square with canned food. It takes place on December 2 beginning at 9 a.m.

o
Graduate Student Council – Kevin Knudsen
i. The Graduate Student Council is becoming increasingly more formalized with
the appointment of council members and the structure of the meetings.
ii. Graduate students are encouraged to take advantage of professional development
workshops. Recently Aaron Basko, Dean of Enrollment Management, offered a
workshop on writing resumes.
iii. University student leaders were invited to the White House for an open
discussion on increasing awareness of sexual assault on campuses across the
country. Kevin noted that Salisbury University is already ahead of other
campuses in measures to increase awareness.

4.
Academic Commons Update – Eric Berkheimer
o
Eric provided an update on the construction of the Academic Commons.
Enhancements such as a marble entranceway and brick construction will tie the
building into the style of the rest of the campus, yet the café and glass enclosures will
add a welcoming presence. A 48 carillon bell tower will possibly serve as a beacon
towards the University and can be seen up to 150 feet away. Completion of the
building is expected May 2016 and move in will occur over that summer.
o
There was a suggestion that students could get firsthand lab experience about
sustainability during the construction process.
Stadium Construction Update – Eric Berkheimer
o
5.
The new Stadium will be the first major structure constructed on the East Campus
other than the parking garage. The four-story building will house meeting and
training facilities as well as rooms for special events. The bleachers will hold up to
3000 home-side seats as well as 2000 visitor seats. The expected completion date is
spring 2016.
Website Content Management System Update – Sue Eagle
o
Microsoft Corporation is phasing out Front Page, SharePoint Designer 2007 and
Expression Web, all software that Salisbury University uses to edit the SU website.
An RFP was conducted and Hannon Hill’s Cascade Server software was chosen to
replace them.
o
Over the next few months the new software will be installed and a few select
members of the campus community will be asked to serve as the pilot group. Based
on their feedback, and modifications needed will be made. Several information and
training sessions will be provided.

Maryland Combined Charity Campaign – Amy Hasson
o
The campus community is asked to review the Maryland Combined Charity
Campaign literature they should have received by now. There are almost 1000
worthwhile charities to contribute to and all the institutions within the State of
Maryland are asked to encourage their members to consider contributing. This year,
we will again team up with our student United Way chapter to give special focus to
the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore.
o
A bus tour of local facilities, served by United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, of a
few select charities will be conducted on November 7. Any faculty or staff member is
welcome to attend this tour. Please contact the President’s Office if you would like to
sign up.
Open Enrollment – Nancy Siegert
o
The Human Resources office is conducting open office hours to answer any questions
concerning open enrollment and new healthcare options and changes.
o
Individuals who could potentially lose healthcare coverage are being tracked and
notified for follow-up concerning alternative options.
