Special Education Teacher: Affective Needs Center Based Program
Teach Special Education at STRIVE PREP











Manage an Affective needs classroom, with tiers of LRE programming from inclusion to self-contained
for students with significant emotional disabilities
Case manager student IEP papwerwork load.
Facilitate and write Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans
Develop and manage positive behavioral reinforcements for the AN and General Education classrooms.
Collaborate with GENED teachers and school leaders to effectively prevent and respond to challenging
behaviors
Supervise, collaborate with and effectively assign duties to a paraprofessional
Deliver researched based instruction in affective needs and social/emotional learning.
Emphasis on meeting and exceeding the needs of students in special education with 10:1 student to
teacher ratios.
District provided de-escalation techniques, physical management trainings and other professional
development opportunities.
Constant reflection and growth as an educator by engaging with peers and leaders in regular observations
and feedback
Must have current Special Education Generalist license or a special education endorsement on a General
Education license (or equivalent).

STRIVE Prep has four of the top five secondary schools in Denver according to the 2011 School
Performance Framework.
Our student population is approximately 90% students of color and 92% qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Across the network, 40% of students are English Language Learners and 10% receive Special Education
services.
Admission is open to all students (academic proficiency is not considered for selection).
Joining our Team
STRIVE Prep will consider hiring a full-time Special Education teacher for placement at our Lake
Campus who:
 Is dedicated to educational success for urban students of color
 Has the highest commitment to improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration, best
practices, and regular assessment
 Communicates effectively with students, parents, and colleagues





Holds a B.A./B.S. degree in subject area intended to teach (preferred)
Speaks Spanish or has experience working with bilingual students (preferred)
Has urban teaching experience (preferred)
Holds a CO State Certification in Special Education
Possesses a background in behavior modification methodology, strong classroom management skills,
and the ability to implement a variety of instructional strategies across subject areas.
This position is open immediately and applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Compensation is
highly competitive; teachers are eligible to participate in the Denver Public Schools Retirement System.
