A CHRISTMAS CAROL Today December 27, at 3:00 p.m., we will have a special event: our own John Carpenter will present a oneman performance of Dickens’ immortal A Christmas Carol. He will hold this in the Undercroft/Fellowship Hall, and the event will be open to our friends at Concordia and RWENA. At the conclusion of the 1 ½ hour play, John will discuss this classic against the background of the Christmas story, which will be very appropriate for the 1st Sunday of Christmas! CHRISTMAS OFFERING It is still Christmas, and you still have the opportunity to make a special Christmas offering in thanksgiving for the blessings of the year and for the birth of Our Saviour into our time. You will find envelopes in your service sheet for this special gift in honor of the Reason for the Season! Your gift today will be counted for this year. FEAST OF THE HOLY NAME Remember that we will celebrate the Feast of the Holy Name on Friday, January 1, 2016 with a Low Mass at 10:00 a.m. Make your plans to receive the Holy Sacrament for the new calendar year! VESTRY ELECTIONS 2015 The Annual Meeting of the Congregation of St. Andrew’s will be held on Sunday, January 24th, after the 8:30 a.m. High Mass. The Annual Meeting will be held at the Montessori Centre at 4608 Granny White Pike, 37220, which is just south of the intersection of Granny White and Harding. We will have three vacancies to fill for the class of 2019, one vacancy for the class of 2018 (Henry Carpenter’s position, because as a postulant for the Deaconate he is no longer eligible), and the vacancy for Anne Ross’s term in the class of 2017. The nomination forms may be found in the hallway in front of the Pastor’s study. They specify the minimum qualifications to serve on the Vestry. Please submit your nomination to the committee. Any questions regarding a person’s qualifications should also be submitted to the committee. Any parishioner who is 18 years of age or older, and who is a communicant in good standing is eligible for the Vestry. This means, among other things, that the person attends regularly, supports the church, and pledges a specific amount. The same criteria defines those who are eligible to have seat, voice and vote at the annual meeting. If you haven’t made a pledge, you have seat and voice, but no vote, pursuant to our bylaws. ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY We continue our study of Islam and Christianity this week with discussion of the Traditions of Mohammed in The Hadith as edited by Dr. Bill Warner, head of the Center for the Study of Political Islam. We will be delving into The Hadith, or the traditions of Mohammed, in the coming weeks. END OF YEAR PLEDGES The end of the year is fast approaching and we are slightly behind on our pledge contributions. Please remember that any pledge money you wish to claim on your 2015 income tax returns must be turned in by noon December 30th at the latest, so it can be deposited in the bank by the end of the year. Other Items Confessions: Please call Fr. Guill to schedule your confession at any time. The altar flowers are given by those listed in the service sheet insert.
