AUSTIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Technology is all about people. The most powerful network on earth is not a network of cables
and boxes; it is the human network. At AISD, technology is all about unleashing the human
capacity to innovate, communicate, educate and transform lives. We strongly believe that
technology by itself is nothing but boxes and wires. However, technology with well trained
professionals has the potential to transform the lives of our students.
In today’s digital world most students come to school computer and technology savvy.
Technology development has resulted in widespread change in the way students learn, teachers
teach, administrators manage and parents connect. To keep our stakeholders engaged in the
learning process, we must be able to adapt quickly to this fast changing environment. While our
resources are increasingly shrinking, the new digital generation is demanding and expecting
more from technology. We must do more with less and build sustainable models for the future
that meet the expectations. The desktop centric world is no longer sustainable for the future. We
will build cost effective platforms based on cloud computing that provide access to information
from anywhere at any time via any device.
Engaging the digital generation in the way that they learn is critical to our success. Teachers,
students and parents must be able to rely on a digital learning environment that is engaging and
reflective of the new reality that our students are more than consumers of knowledge--they are
also creators of knowledge. The Digital Learning Platform that is part of the Cloud Computing
environment (my.AustinISD.org) via the myLearning Application Dashboard provides relevant
information and connects the dots in a deliberate way to support AISD curriculum and
instruction, thereby making it an integral part of education and not just an add-on. It is an
environment that promotes equity through the delivery of a consistent learning and instructional
experience across the entire district. It is easily accessible through the cloud by all stakeholders
from anywhere at any time via any device.
It is imperative that we unleash the power of assessment to inform students, teachers, principals,
administrators and parents about the learning process as well as transform accountability into one
that inspires and stimulates best outcomes. The Performance Management Platform,
myPerformance Application Dashboard, in the (my.AustinISD.org) Cloud environment currently
provides access to integrated student and assessment data through myReporting, myAnalytics
and Schoolnet to support academic performance data analysis for teachers, principals and
administrators. The Strategic Performance Dashboard provides access to more integrated human
resources, financial, student and assessment indicators to support a holistic approach to decisionmaking in order to improve student learning, teacher instructional delivery, administrative
decision-making, and reduce cost through better monitoring of resource utilization and program
effectiveness. The platform will promote better alignment and cross-functional collaboration
through consistent metrics across all levels within the district and the community to achieve the
overall objectives.
With our increasingly shrinking resources and the demands to do more with less, we must look
for new ways to manage our operation. The Enterprise Management Platform, myEnterprise in
the (my.AustinISD.org) Cloud Application Dashboard provides an integrated platform to
districts operational systems and financial systems. Operating costs will be reduced by
eliminating system duplications, integrating workflow, eliminating redundant processes,
improving system utilization, and establishing a standard trainable environment.
We must build strong partnerships and stay connected with our community through transparency
and sharing our successes. We have revamped the district website (www.austinisd.org) to
provide a new and engaging digital face for the district.
Finally, we strongly believe that technology is about empowering people to do what they do best.
We will extend the capacity of our stakeholders through the use of cost effective technologies to
be more engaging teachers, more effective administrators, more involved parents and more
financially responsible leaders.

Technology Governance
Establish the Technology Governance Council under the superintendent directive to review, approve and oversee district technology
initiatives, procedures, guidelines, plans and standards. The Council serves at the pleasure of the superintendant and provides
recommendations to the superintendent for final approval.
Technology council will ensure consistency in processes, continuity of vision, and the elimination of decision-making silos that do not
connect the dots.
