Motion for Program for Leadership and Careers Engagement (PLACE) Motion #1 “That this MUISS Committee authorises the expenditure of $2000 to pay for PLACE from the budget line 652900 – Other Activities.” MOVER: Ammar SECONDER: William FOR: 12 AGAINST: 0 ABSTENTIONS: 0 MOTION PASSED Ammar says that we require this because this is a whole day conference targeting almost 100 students. We have received $5000 from Daryl Evans (Provost of Learning and Teaching) who is also willing to come speak at event. Apart from that, MUISS needs to support this project [financially]. PLACE will teach international students skills to jump through those hoops. 5. Motion for International Students Week (ISW) Motion #2 “That this MUISS Committee authorises the expenditure of $500 to pay for ISW from YNJ Migration Consultants Sponsorship. This will be taken from the budget line 651100 – Projects.” MOVER: Mary SECONDER: Lewin FOR: 13 AGAINST: 0 ABSTENTIONS: 0 MOTION PASSED This money was Anh’s sponsorship money, however needs to be passed through committee before it can be spent. Election reopening and forum MUISS Elections have been reopened until Monday 12pm. Three positions are currently still open: Services and Welfare, Activities, and Education. Nina urges potential nominees to think about whether or not they will have time for next year before nominating themselves. Ammar has stepped in temporarily for next year’s Education officer. Ammar asks that if you know anyone interested in the position to please tell him. Election forum is to be held 1-3pm this Wednesday in R7, Rotunda and cannot be changed. Committee was asked to invite their friends. Nina states that participating in the forum is not compulsory but it is nothing compared to what they had to do last year campaign-wise. 8. MUISS Olympics updates To be held on Saturday 12th of September 2015. William asks that everyone should message him if they can help. Currently there are 13 badminton teams, 5 basketball teams, and 4 futsal teams registered. Still need 1 basketball team and 2 futsal teams. Reminders to complete payments will be sent out this week. There are 57 volunteers which is more than enough. Information regarding medals will be decided later. 9. Permanent Residency (PR) Seminar MGM 13/15 There are 35 people registered for the PR Seminar by YNJ Migration Consultants. It will be held next Wednesday 9th of September 4-6pm. William says we need 50 people and asks that committee please promote to their friends. 10. General business Nina has been contacted by Monash Dancesport regarding an event aimed at international students to be held on Thursday of Week 8, 17th of September. She states that don’t have to be involved however they have asked for funding to pay for pizzas. Ammar says that this may take spotlight away from our own events and suggests that perhaps it could be put at the end of PLACE. Mary says that she would rather spend the money on Free Breakfast than this as we are giving them money but not really getting much out of it. Nina suggests that we merge it with PLACE. Ravindi suggests they can do it at MUISS Olympics. Nina will contact Monash Dancesport to negotiate further planning of the event. Meeting closed at 6:53pm.
