YOU CANNOT WORK WITH A PARTNER. All typed portions must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double spaced. Spelling, capitalization, grammar, and all other conventions will be considered as part of the grade. All projects require a Works Cited page or printed copies of references. 1. The actors in Shakespeare’s time would have worn Elizabethan costumes. Make a costume book. Choose a color scheme for the Capulets and the Montagues. Explain your choice. Draw a minimum of one authentic (based on research) costume for each of the following: Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, Nurse, Friar Laurence, Lord Capulet, Lord Montague, Lady Capulet, and Lady Montague (10 in total). Label each costume according to the character, act, and scene. Include a one-paragraph explanation of each costume. 2. DRAW a detailed blueprint for the Globe Theatre. Base the blueprint on research. Label the various parts of the blueprint. Type a two to four-page paper that gives the history and explains the theatre. 3. Design the set for FIVE scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Draw or display the sets on a poster, a booklet (one 8 ½ x 11 in paper per scene), or dioramas. Arrange the scenes in chronological order. Each design must include the act and scene, a list of props, their uses, and an explanation of the plot of each scene. Explanation for each scene must be at least 1 pg. in length (minimum 5 pgs.). Base your decisions on research. 4. Design a comic book or an illustrated children’s book that tells the story of Romeo and Juliet. You may use the words of Shakespeare, or you may write and illustrate a more modern version of the story. Each story page (or comic square) must have at least 1 sentence. Must be in color. Type a one page paper which explains why you chose to represent things the way you did. Minimum of 15 pgs. 5. Write a song/rap or create an interpretive dance about Romeo and Juliet. If you choose the song, it must explain the plot and characterization of the play. You must include typed lyrics and 1 page explaining your music and word choice. If you create an interpretive dance, it must explain the plotline and characterization of at least 1 character and a include one page detailing the song artist, song title, and explaining your song choice, its effect of the mood of the dance, and how it fits into the play. Both the song/rap and the dance must be performed. 6. You may create a graphic essay for Romeo and Juliet. It will be graded for accuracy and appearance. Your graphic essay must contain the following: 2 quotes from Romeo and Juliet (you must rewrite quote AND paraphrase it), 10 examples of literary devices from Romeo and Juliet (oxymoron, similes, metaphors, rhymes, asides, soliloquies, paradoxes, foreshadowing, puns, personification, etc.), 3 symbols that represent the themes from play (i.e. A heart for ___, etc.), and a plot summary with at least 10 events from play. 7. Individual performance. Memorize and perform two to three monologues/soliloquies. They may be from 2 or more characters. Type a one page paper explaining why these lines are important to the plot or characterization of the play. You must also explicate the lines (tell what the lines mean). 8. Create a complete Facebook page from the perspective of 3 of the following characters: Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, Nurse, and Friar Laurence. You must post in the voice of that character and his/hers family, friends, or enemies. 1) Include 14 posts/responses (7 from the character and 7 from family, friends, or enemies). 2) Include their background, DOB, place born, music and books they like, etc. 3) Include 10 pictures and captions. Must turn in a hard copy of the pages with all of the information. 9. Create a complete Instagram account from the perspective of 3 of the following characters: Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, Nurse, Friar Laurence, Lord Capulet, Lord Montague, Lady Capulet, and Lady Montague. Biography must include likes, dislikes, a motto, and hobbies. Account must contain a minimum of 20 pictures (chronological order) depicting the plotline and other relevant items. Captions should contain 1 quote from the play, and a 1st person comment from the POV of the character.
