Academic Dean Position
Leadership Public Schools - Oakland is seeking an exceptional Academic Dean for the 2013-2014 school year.

Responsibilities
Supervision and Evaluation of Teachers
• Supporting teachers and instruction across the school
• Modeling lessons and instructional strategies for teachers
• Using data to guide instruction and helping teachers to effectively use classroom and school widedata
• Ensuring that learning is happening in all classrooms
• Providing academic support to designated teachers
• Assisting the principal in classroom observations and evaluations
• Building trust with teachers and using strong interpersonal skills
• Giving direct and difficult feedback to support growth of teacher practice
Support curriculum development and implementation
• Understanding what rigor looks like in all high school content areas and supporting teachers’ practice in
becoming more rigorous
• Supporting teachers across all content areas
• Leading professional development and teacher collaborations, including supervising and supporting the
Department Lead Teachers and the Grade Level Academy Lead Teachers
• Leading and supporting the school-wide reading program to ensure growth for the school’s lowest level
readers
Oversee Academic Intervention and Support
• Working with principal and staff to monitor grades making intervention recommendations and developing
intervention programs
• Coordinating the afterschool program as well asorganizing and leading summer school
• Helping to support the Advisory curriculum and program
• Attending IEP meetings
Oversee State and Internal Assessment Process
• With principal, creating testing calendar for the school year
• Coordinating all benchmark and finals testing, including data analysis protocols and re-teaching plans
• Coordinating state standardized tests (CAHSEE, CST, CELDT, MAP)
• Demonstrating data driven practices and mind-set including: being results-oriented, supporting the
internal benchmark testing process, believing in the importance of the CST and standardized measures,
organizing systematically the analysis of results, moving teachers’ practice in order to increase student
achievement, consistently tracking and monitoring student progress in order to assess effectiveness of
intended objective
Administrative Duties
• Participating as key member of the school's Instructional Leadership team and the administrative team
• Participating in parent conferences, enrollment outreach sessions, parent association meetings, and at
least one school committee
• Sustaining a culture of college success
• Participating in the leadership of the student leadership retreat
• Fulfilling other assignments as need to best serve our students

Qualifications

High school teaching experience with appropriate authorizations
Prior administrative experience, Administrative Credential or currently enrolled in a program
Academic expertise: B.A. with M.A. preferred
Experience and commitment with diverse youth in an urban school setting
Experienced instructional leader, with curriculum and pedagogy
Experienced leader for classroom management and student discipline matters
Experienced instructional leadership with our reading, writing and math initiatives
Commitment to both excellence and equity – Leadership Mission and Values
Relentless drive to attain results
Strong communication and facilitation skills, including technology
Team player and experience with collaboration
Ability to work under pressure and adapt easily
Comfortable with charter environment including fast growth and flexible roles
