Reports To: Director, Oakland Opportunity Academy
Basic Function: Academic Instructor – World Language (Spanish), Oakland Opportunity Academy
Major Responsibilities: Provide integrated academic curriculum delivery to students for fulfillment of their core subject credit requirements
for the Michigan Merit Curriculum, working with a variety of online integrated learning systems.
Basic Qualifications: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of alternative education students including the application of learning
research and effective instructional practices and methodologies. Facilitate student learning, using integrated academic curriculum and
appropriate instruction. Ensure student learning in key elements of the Michigan Merit Curriculum. Prepare students for demonstration of
learning in MME. Provide for student achievement in critical and high order thinking skills. Implement student pre/post assessment activities
designed to prescribe curriculum and instruction for students. Document and communicate student progress/achievement information, using
applicable student information systems. Provide instruction to students in academic applications in their career cluster. Support and reference
EDP goals in the student academic learning and projects. Work with career and instructional aides to maximize the productive learning
environment for all students. Follow individualized instructional plans for students, based on the student IEP received and supported by the
sending school. Participate in staff and organizational development activities to improve knowledge, instructional practices and methodology,
and personal skills. Participate in a team approach to providing support services (counseling, job placement, academic support) to students.
Coordinate and manage student participation in instructional opportunities including web based academic courses. Collect and utilize student
achievement and performance data to improve student learning. Maintain internal and external communications related to academic progress,
with students, parents, sending schools, as well as building, department and Oakland Schools administrators and consultants. Participate in
student marketing, outreach, recruitment, and retention activities. Implement activities designed to address state and national educational reform
and improvement efforts. Utilize staff meeting and Planning Time to assess, monitor, and improve the learning environment and processes.
Manage technology applications for academic and workplace skill instruction. Utilize student and organizational performance measures and data
to continuously improve student achievement and organizational performance. Help to create and sustain a positive and supportive learning
community.
Work Schedule: Four days per week from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Secondary Education
Endorsement in Spanish. Ability to properly utilize tools and equipment necessary in providing instruction to students and conducting
professional development workshops. The incumbent is also required to properly operate required office equipment such as a personal
computer, fax machine, copier and the like.

Employment Terms: Ten month work year. Salary based on the Oakland Opportunity Academy Instructor Salary Schedule. ($135.259 per
session)
