games together at home. It is important to play the
games regularly to reinforce mathematical skills.
The Arts
Language and Literacy
A major focus this term will be the types of words
we use in the English language. In these two months
we will look mainly at:

conjunctions
As we have covered nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs
and adjectives in in Year 5 already we will be
encouraging pupils to include these in their individual
writing and would ask you to do the same with work
at home.
As we have just celebrated World Book Day (5th
March), please continue to encourage your child to
read both their class novel and library book. Don’t
forget to ask them questions about new books,
events and characters.
During March, our class novel is ‘Bill’s New Frock,’ a
lot of our Literacy lessons will be linked to this
novel.
Linguistic Phonics
All the pupils in year 5 are working hard on their
linguistic phonics.
Each week spellings will continue to be linguistic
phonics based or topic related (cued spellings)
Personal Development and
Mutual Understanding

Children are learning to talk about their feelings
and how to deal with them.
