Handwriting This term the children will be taking part in Multiskills sessions with a visiting specialist and practicing their climbing and balancing skills on the indoor climbing frame and obstacle courses. People Who Help Us And Famous People Class One – Spring 2016 Reception Areas of Learning Year 1 Subjects Communication and Language Speaking and Listening Children will listen and respond in a variety of situations and will answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions. We will be listening to and following lots of instructions and will be taking part in lots of role-play to develop imagination and speech. Children will share news and personal anecdotes. To link with our work on materials we shall be having a fire to investigate which materials burn. Fire health and safety will be discussed and practised. Linking with our work on The Great Fire of London and Fire Fighters we will be investigating which materials burn. We will use maps to locate London and compare physical and human features of different locations through discussion and first hand experience. We will use ICT to find out about our topic and consolidate other learning using age-appropriate programs and software. We shall use precise instructions to program the BeeBots and debug where necessary. We shall be finding out all about Chinese New Year. When, where, why and how it is celebrated. During our Chinese New Year celebrations we will cook and taste food from China. During the build up to Easter we shall be cooking with eggs. Expressive Arts and Design Art DT Music Our work on Chinese New Year and Easter will involve many art and crafty activities. We shall be building models of emergency vehicles using various equipment and materials. In Music we will develop our beat and rhythm skills through singing and playing percussion instruments and we shall learn about some famous composers.
