EANM Interest Group Meeting “Infection&Inflammation”

Partecipants: 23 persons: 14 females (9 registered and 6 not registered) and 9 males (3 registered
and 6 not registered)
1- Presentation of the Committee and description of general aims and goals achieved (by AS)
All participants were asked to register on the vData of EANM.
Then AS briefly introduced the committee and the major achievements obtained in the past years
with the program for next years. Emphasis was given to:
- standardization of methodologies (labelling of WBC and antibodies)
- standardization of the interpretation criteria of nuclear medicine imaging of infection
- divulgation and education through several ways amongst nuclear medicine community and other
clinicians.
2- Description of future teaching objectives at EANM (webinars, seminars, courses) (by FJ,
AS, EL, JMC)
The Committee will organize some intensive course on topics in infection (two week-end sessions
for year), each course may include 5-6 seminars/day (level=MD open to technologists) in English.
3- Practical courses on WBC labelling (in NM centers around Europe) (by EL and JMC)
JMC and EL explained that the Committee is available to make educational courses (focused on
radiolabelling procedures, interpretation criteria and modality of acquisition of nuclear medicine
imaging of infection) on demand in some nuclear medicine departments in European countries.
4- Description of future scientific objectives (contacts with other societies and guidelines) (by
FJ, AS, OI, JMC and EL).
JMC and AS collaborated and finished the common diagnostic flow-chart of IBD with
Gastroenterologists and Radiologists.
AS and EL will collaborate with Orthopaedics, Infectivologists and Radiologists towards common
diagnostic flow-chart of Osteomyelitis and PJI.
OI and FJ will collaborate with Infectivologists and Radiologists towards common diagnostic flowchart of Diabetic Foot.
FJ and OI will collaborate with Vascular Surgeons and Radiologists towards common diagnostic
flow-chart of Vascular Graft Infection.
EL and PE will collaborate with Cardiologists and Infectivologists towards common diagnostic
flow-chart of Infective Endocarditis.
5- The Young Investigator Meeting 2013 (by AS)
The young nuclear medicine physicians (< 38 year old) can submit a research project on “hybrid
imaging in the painful hip” before December 20, 2012. 10-15 projects will be selected and
presented in Vienna in July 2013. One project will be awarded. AS invites all participants to submit
projects.
6- Call for members in the Committee (by AS)
The following vacancies were announced:

a) 1 young member to collaborate on the guidelines on OM, spondylodiscitis, PJI and diabetic foot
(medlines and evidence based relevance of papers).
b) 1 young member to collaborate on the guidelines on vascular graft infections and endocarditis
(medlines and evidence based relevance of papers).
c) 1 young member to collaborate on the preparation of slides, CDs, DVDs, for teaching purposes.
d) 1 young member to collaborate on website, webinars, multicentre studies and press release.
Most of the participants asked the EANM Committee some help to increase their knowledge in
nuclear medicine diagnosis of infection-inflammation by organizing courses and meetings in their

AS asked participants some questions or proposal.
Dr Francois Rouzet, asked the EANM Committee to coordinate a multicentre study on the diagnosis
of infective Endocarditis with FDG-PET/CT. The Committee is pleased to receive all suggestions
and will further elaborate the porposals.
The meeting ended at 14:30.
