The University of British Columbia BUSINESS TITLE: EMPLOYMENT GROUP: JOB FAMILY: JOB CODE: VP/FACULTY: DEPARTMENT: PAY GRADE: SALARY LEVEL: Clinical Associate Management&Professional (AAPS) Nursing 182902 - Nursing, Level B Faculty of Applied Science Nursing, School of 8 B JOB SUMMARY To assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of the undergraduate nursing courses; to educate students in a participatory, interactive and inclusive environment to develop competency and capacity for critical judgment, decision-making and mastery of entry level competencies within the broader context of comprehensive patient/client care. ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS Reports to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Programs. Takes general direction from Course/Practice Leaders to identify clinical activities required to support the course. WORK PERFORMED - Coordinates and provides clinical instruction for a group of allocated students within a specific clinical site(s) - Participates in clinical agency orientation as required - Liaises with the clinical agency to arrange and organize appropriate clinical orientation activities for students entering the area - Coordinates and manages student orientation to the clinical area - Allocates patients/clients to students on a daily basis - Liaises with supervisory RNs in the clinical area to coordinate and support student learning - Organizes pre and post student conferences in the clinical area to prepare for and consolidate learning - Reviews and offers written feedback on student clinical journals - Coordinates with the Clinical Skills & Simulation Lab Team for referral of students for additional clinical skills lab work when required - Teaches, develops, and evaluates work performance of students as required in the course - Provides mid-point and final evaluation of clinical performance of students - Records clinical progress and competence achievement in the Practice e-portfolio and completes learning plans and all mid-point and final clinical evaluations - Provides feedback to the Course/Practice Leader about the clinical areas suitability for clinical learning for the specific course - Supports relationship-building with clinical partners to facilitate current and future clinical placements - Assists Course/Practice Leaders with the theoretical component of coursework, such as grading required papers or delivering lecture(s) with adequate direction and mentoring from the course and/or practice leaders. - Participates in team activities relative to planning, implementing and evaluating the undergraduate program, such as exam invigilation, committee work, BSN orientation, and BSN interview process - Performs other related duties as required. CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR Error in judgment would impact on the clinical performance of nursing students and safe care for patients; potentially sever critical opportunities for faculty and clinical placements in various hospital and community agencies and/or compromise the School's reputation. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Reports to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Program. . Takes general direction, collaborates with and works closely with the Course/Practice Leaders to identify clinical activities as required to support the course. Works independently and interdependently in clinical settings. SUPERVISION GIVEN Supervises and responsible for students (normally 6; maximum 12) in the clinical areas; provides direct supervision of student performing skills. QUALIFICATIONS Undergraduate degree in Nursing & Registered Nurse with CRNBC. Masters Degree Preferred. At least two years of experience in a clinical position. Strong clinical background in one of the following Adult/Older Adult, Maternal/Child, Pediatrics, Mental Health, or Community/Population Health; Teaching experience and/or a keen interest in teaching; Exceptional interpersonal skills; Computer literacy with word processing and email/attachment capabilities.
