PLACEMENT OFFICER (INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION YEAR)
Job Description
Reports to:
Placement Manager
Job Purpose:
To manage the placement of NCUK students from teaching centres
overseas into NCUK partner universities with a specific focus on
students studying on the NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY)
programme; to support the development of NCUK’s IFY products
and the student experience of NCUK IFY students; to support the
general activities of the Placement Team and where appropriate, to
contribute to the general running of the NCUK Office in Manchester.
Key responsibilities:
1. To lead in the placement of IFY students from NCUK centres oversees to NCUK
partner universities to include:
a. supporting the compilation and update of the NCUK University Entry
Directories specifically for IFY students
b. working with NCUK’s partner universities to define appropriate processes
and procedures around undergraduate applications
c. the individual placement of IFY students from specified NCUK centres
overseas including:
i. providing information and support to centres and students to assist
in their application
ii. management of these students’ applications within NCUK’s
“Welcome” student system
iii. to work closely with NCUK’s partner universities to ensure the quick
turnaround of offers / confirmation of results / release of
documentation necessary for visa applications for these students
2. To ensure that NCUK’s IFY placement processes are properly documented and to
build up a knowledge base relating to IFY placement.
3. To supervise casual staff where they are required to support IFY placement
4. To contribute to the development and review of NCUK’s IFY Products as and when
required by NCUK’s Product Development Group
5. To support the placement of postgraduate and International Diploma students
from specific NCUK Centres to NCUK partner universities (as above)
6. General administrative duties required as part of the Placement Team, for
example organising and taking the minutes of meetings
7. Other reasonable duties commensurate with the level of the post

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
1.
Administrative experience (Essential).
2.
An understanding of UK/western higher education (Essential).
3.
A particular understanding of undergraduate higher education in the UK (Desirable).
4.
Academic qualifications to at least graduate or equivalent level (Desirable).
Skills (Essential)
1.
A high level of competence in the use of Information and Communications
Technologies (ICT) including the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
and web editing packages.
2.
An ability to produce, manipulate and analyse statistical information in Microsoft
Excel (or similar).
3.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Numerate and articulate.
4.
A record of attention to detail and of thoroughness.
5.
The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and to work under pressure.
6.
A commitment to teamwork.
7.
Demonstrable cross-cultural awareness and understanding.
