Our Ref: JP/DMB 7 September 2015 Dear Parent/Carer As you will be aware, your son/daughter has opted for GCSE Health and Social Care. This course includes a controlled assessment task which amounts to 60% of the final GCSE grade. In order for your son/daughter to complete the controlled assessment it is necessary for them to complete a week long work placement in a health, social care or early years setting. Work experience forms an extremely constructive element of this vocational course and can greatly assist students to gain valuable insight to workplace practices, along with supporting decision making with regard to future career choices. The school administers work experience through the Education Business Partnership (EBP) whose online database can be used to select potential placements; however we encourage your son/daughter to approach a health, social care or early years setting (0-8years) which is conveniently located for them, where they could potentially complete their placement in November 2015. Examples of suitable providers include residential care homes, day centres, doctor’s surgeries, respite care, pre-schools, nursery schools, infant schools, primary schools (Year 3 classes only) and day care centres. Any potential placement will be reviewed by the school prior to the placement to ensure its suitability for the purpose of the controlled assessment. Students who wish to approach employers to arrange their own placement will need to collect an Own Placement form from Mrs Vacher in Student Services and ask their employer to complete it. The form should then be returned to her as soon as possible. It is important that all placements are set up by the end of September as the students will be out on their placement for the week of Monday 23rd to Friday 27th November 2015. Please refer any concerns to Mrs Payne, who will be available at the KS4 Transition Evening on Tuesday 8th September 2015. Yours sincerely Miss Z Terry Subject Leader of Social Sciences
