The Test Instrumentation Engineer performs complex engineering work assignments involving instrumentation of gas turbine engines, components, or systems, and plans instrumentation efforts handling multiple assignments at various stages of completion. As a Test Instrumentation Engineer your main responsibilities will involve: Independently develop and design innovative sensor installations and instrumentation systems to meet customer and test requirements. Lead projects from concept through delivery to customer. Solve significantly complex instrumentation and sensor problems using good engineering judgment and weighing input from multiple sources – cost, schedule, data quality, etc. Provide sensor and measurement systems engineering support as a technical lead in an area of measurement expertise. Support the local team on measurements within this area of expertise, and support continuous improvement of the measurement area. Assist in training and development of less experienced engineers and technicians in areas of expertise. Perform failure analysis of sensors and develop advanced sensors in area of expertise as part of a team Initiate and support part rework and/or fabrication from both internal and external sources. Initiate procurement of hardware from outside vendors Write detailed work instructions and procedures for Instrumentation Laboratory personnel. Provide support during sensor application and engine/rig build phases Assist in preparation of cost estimates, schedules and operating budgets for sub-system designs and applications. Oversee instrumentation efforts in terms of cost and schedule for assigned sub-system tasks. Manage cost, schedule, and quality for the instrumentation portions of assigned projects, including periodic reporting of status and estimate to complete to management and actively project managing task progress. Prepare and present reports of work accomplished to a team consisting of peers and management. Communicate effectively with management on project status and future development needs in the measurement area of expertise. As a Test Instrumentation Engineer your Qualifications and Experience will include: Basic: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering and 4+ years of experience with measurements and sensors or experience working in an engineering function within the aerospace industry or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering and 2+ years of experience with measurements and sensors or experience working in an engineering function within the aerospace industry US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a government security clearance Preferred: Prior experience with principles and theories of measurement relating to thermocouples, pressure measurements, strain gages, and/or accelerometers Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Excellent interpersonal skills Proven team leadership capability and the ability to make sound business decisions Rolls-Royce has a broad customer base comprising 600 airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility aircraft and helicopter operators, 160 armed forces, more than 2,000 marine customers including 70 navies, and energy customers in 120 countries.
