Cultural and Rural Health Disparities in the Mountain West
Mark your calendar! We are delighted to announce that the First Annual Meeting of the Mountain West Clinical
Translational Research-Infrastructure Network Meeting will be held from June 23-25, 2014 at the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas. As you make your travel arrangements, please keep in mind the following:
The Annual Meeting will be a gathering place to build collaborations, explore facets of health issues unique to
our region, provide opportunities for individual career growth through access to CTR-IN resources, and
provide a means to grow our shared capacity to influence clinical and translational research. It will showcase
the remarkable range of research being conducted across our 13 partner universities, including new research
already being done with CTR-IN support. Learn from the eminent scientists on our External Advisory
Committee, and from your peers at partner institutions whose research may compliment your own.
Registration: Please visit http://ctrin.unlv.edu/?p=543 and register for the conference. Since you are our guest;
there is no conference fee for you to attend. We ask that you register using our website in order for us to keep
an accurate count of attendees. In addition, we welcome your input as we plan the agenda. Your ideas on
special discussion topics are highly valued, and please let us know if you would be willing to facilitate a session.
Please register by Thursday, May 22nd.

External Advisory committees should be on site by noon Monday, June 23rd, for meetings on Monday afternoon.

Ground transportation to the hotel from the airport:
The Hyatt Place offers a hotel shuttle to and from the airport. Their shuttle picks up at Level Zero. Please call
the hotel at 702-369-3366 dial “0” once you have your luggage to request a pick-up. In addition, you can take a
taxi from the airport to the hotel. Several taxi companies service the airport.
Things to note:

Some taxis will not accept credit card payments. Customers should notify the attendant if they plan to use a
credit card for payment.

There is a $2.00 charge on all fares originating at the airport.

The maximum number of passengers allowed in any taxi is five (5), including infants and children.
Ground transportation to and from the meetings on campus: We will provide a shuttle service between the
Hyatt Place and the conference location on campus. There is no need to rent a car.
Local attendees parking: Please make sure to indicate on the registration form if you will be driving to campus
and need a daily parking pass. You cannot park on campus without one.
Weather: June is one of the warmest months of the year for Las Vegas. While the heat is considered a “dry
heat” in the desert, expect temperatures between 95 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit with low humidity. As a
result, you might not sweat as much as you would at home. It is essential to stay hydrated and drink more fluid
than you usually might at home. Please make sure to pack sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen and loose fitting clothes.
The air conditioning in our buildings varies, so if you tend to get cool indoors, we recommend that you bring a
light jacket or wrap to wear while you are inside. It’s a good idea to bring a light wrap that blocks UV in case you
spend time outside.
Special Needs: If you have special needs, please make sure to indicate this on the registration form and share
with us what we can do to create a comfortable environment for you. Also, if you have a food allergy (allergies)
that we need to be aware of, please make sure to tell us on the registration form.
