Job Description Job title: Data Executive Reporting to: Database Operations Manager Date: Department: IT & IS August 2012 Aims To assist the Database Operations Manager with the administration of Crisis’ Raiser’s Edge (version 7.92) database system and all of its related systems (Blackbaud Direct Marketing & Blackbaud NetCommunity) in order to facilitate the organisations communication strategies across HQ and all regional sites with Crisis donors, supporters, volunteers and all other contacts. To take ownership of centralised data processes and to further expand on standardising processes for data collected via third party systems and websites to ensure integration with The Raisers Edge via the in-house developed Supporter Processing Application (SPA). To ensure that relevant RE training is provided to users and to establish and promote policies and procedures to ensure its correct usage and safeguard its integrity for accurate reporting. To be involved in the effective usage of Business Intelligence tools within The Raiser’s Edge and its related systems while also utilising technologies such as Microsoft SQL Reporting Services (SSRS). To assist the Database Operations Manager to enforce and maintain Data Protection policies across the organisation. Salary £30,000 per annum Hours 35 per week Principal accountabilities Database & IT Management To maintain the structure of attributes, code tables, business rules and all other set-up functions To liaise with users and external agencies, to ensure data is delivered according to schedule, well-presented and to specification for processing into The Raiser’s Edge To provide advanced database support in the areas of data selection, segmentation and analysis to all members of The Raiser’s Edge user base. To ensure adherence to Crisis’ data management procedures and compliance with data protection requirements. To participate in Departmental meetings and activities, where appropriate and required. To ensure that each database and any data analysis software relating to a specific database operates to its full potential and that day-to-day administration and security is carried out effectively. To assist the Database Operations Manager to establish, implement and maintain a database knowledge management strategy across the organisation To support staff across Crisis HQ and all regional sites in utilising each database for respective communication and contact strategies with donors, supporters, volunteers and all other contacts. To maintain data integrity by establishing and implementing regular system checks. To investigate problems and/or implement appropriate solutions. To assist the Database Operations Manager with Data Protection queries and issues. Development To make regular and proactive assessments of user needs and to assist the Database Operations Manager to develop strategies and plans that fit within the budget and operational plan. To increase the effective usage of systems for all Crisis users and in particular to promote Data Analysis and Supporter care contact. To participate in the development of new automated solutions/processes channelled via The Raiser’s Edge Application Programming Interface (API) as a result of assessments of user and organisational needs in order to improve efficiency. To contribute to the development and implementation of new internet related and other ecommunication strategies. Training and support To assist the Database Operations Manager to undertake and deliver training for The Raiser’s Edge and its related systems to users. To maintain and update the policy and procedure guides and manuals, as/when necessary To promote and ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act requirements To organise and proactively coordinate The Raiser’s Edge User Champions Group to help with the database roadmap and to share best practices amongst users and ensure that all users understand the system’s capabilities. To log and proactively manage all support calls using the Crisis IT Helpdesk system. Person Specification Essential Knowledge of and experience in running advanced administration features of The Raisers Edge Database (Version 7.84 or higher) Ability to explain technical concepts efficiently and clearly and to be able to communicate clearly with non-technical users (i.e. for training purposes etc) when delivering training and support. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with proficiency in complicated pivot tables and V-lookups. Knowledge of the Data Protection Act in relation to relational databases and compliance Experience of analysis and interpreting data Technical experience of utilising online marketing tools Understanding of data entry requirements Ability to work methodically and accurately with attention to detail Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines Numerate and literate Desirable Project management skills Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or higher Knowledge of and experience in using NetCommunity (Version 6.15 or higher) Knowledge of and experience in using Blackbaud Direct Marketing (Version 1.6 or higher)
