Lesson: Days in French

Previous Experience
When learning French we have been looking at the topics through the theme “cinq rue Sesame”
The children have completed a lesson on French numbers 1-60.
They have also looked at telling the time in French, through speaking and writing and are able to ask what the
time is in French.

Learning Intentions
The pupil will be learning:

Resources
Setting the context/ Beginning the lesson (Introduction)

 Revise numbers 1-20 with the children using a Power point
presentation on the Interactive Whiteboard. Using our topic
of “cinq rue Sesame” different members of Sesame Street
appear on the screen in different quantities.
E.g. two kermits, 8 cookie monsters.
The children have to use show me boards to write down the
number.

 Introduce the French days of the week on the interactive
whiteboard and ask the class to repeat the days after you
several times, so they can pick up on the correct
pronunciation.

 Using a powepoint slideshow with the days of the week, get
children to say the days as they appear on the screen.
During this walk around the room to hear that every child is
speaking and using correct pronunciation.
If some people are struggling provide them with a
vocabulary sheet to refer to.
Power point provided
Vocabulary Sheet.
 Put the children into pairs and give each pair one pack of
flashcards.
One person in the pair holds up a flashcard which will have Day of the week Flash
a French day of the week written on it, the other person then cards.

The answer will be on the back of the card so could also
show the English and ask for the French answer.
*While children are working together
Interactive Whiteboard
 Introduce the vocabulary for asking what day it is. (C’est
quelle jour aujourd’hui?) Have this question up on the
Interactive Whiteboard so all the children can see it.
 Repeat this several times then get children to work with
their elbow partner to ask each other the question and
produce the correct answer (c’est lundi aujourd’hui) and
also using their vocabulary sheet for help.
*While the children are working together, walk around and
listen to pronunciation*
Plenary
 Review the lesson by asking children at random different
days of the week and they have to give you the correct day
answer in English.
 Finish the lesson by watching this YouTube clip with the
class, play it several times and then suggest trying to sing
along.
 If the children can sing along easily and you still have time
then divide the class into groups and get them to sing
different parts.
