SUBJECT: Faculty Oversight of Dual-Credit Curriculum Policy and Standards
The Curriculum and Education Policy Committee urges the Senate to adopt the following
resolution and advance it to the Faculty Senate floor for discussion and action.
RESOLUTION
Whereas, University faculty maintain and monitor all curriculum policy at Purdue University
Calumet and its successors; and
Whereas, University faculty oversight of curriculum policy is a critical element in providing
competent instruction and quality programs at Purdue University Calumet and its successors; and
Whereas, University faculty monitoring of curriculum policy applies to all dual-credit course
sections offered in local public schools and is a critical element to providing competent
instruction and quality programs at Purdue University Calumet and its successors.
Therefore, upon recommendation of the Senate Curriculum and Education Policy Committee,
be it resolved:
1. That all decision-making regarding the screening of high school instructors assigned dual
credit courses be in accordance with legislative regulations and the minimum requirements of the
Higher Learning Commission governing those decisions.
2. That all decision-making regarding the selection of textbooks, course materials, and the
assessment of content mastery in dual – credit coursework be monitored by the university faculty
in accordance with legislative regulations governing those decisions
3. That dual-credit coursework represent the same quality and rigor of equivalent coursework
offered on campus for degree credit as determined by the faculty of Purdue University Calumet
and its successors.
4. That any issue not mentioned above, the ultimate curricular authority and oversight of all dualcredit courses falls solely to the faculty of Purdue University Calumet and its successors.
