Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement
Position Description
Purdue University Calumet, located in Hammond, Indiana, seeks an experienced and successful
Associate Vice Chancellor of Advancement with a proven track record of success in soliciting and
securing major gifts. Purdue University Calumet’s Office of Advancement supports the University’s
educational mission, vision, needs and strategic plan by advancing and strengthening relationships that
lead to philanthropy with the university. This leadership position will interact directly with university
leaders to plan initial, exploratory and actual solicitation visits with prospective donors, alumni, parents,
friends, and other community leaders. Applicants also must have experience in writing gift proposals.
This leader also will be expected to be knowledgeable in the effective use of the website, print and
digital media for successful fundraising. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement will
participate in personal visits, special events, and will also be engaged with various university advisory
and event committees. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successful
solicitations.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Advancement, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement's
responsibilities include:

Creating plans, implementing strategies, and supervising fund-raising programs of the
University;

Supervising staff, including a Director of Development and Annual Giving Coordinator, in
constituent fund-raising positions, annual funds, major and planned gifts, and corporate and
foundation relations;

Managing numerous programming budgets;

Cultivating and soliciting funds from prospects and current donors as well as providing relevant
information regarding applicable technical and gift planning matters;

Directing the campaign activities of the University; and

Supervising the publication and distribution of various development publications.

Required:

Bachelor's degree

Five years of experience as a Director or higher level administrative position overseeing an
Advancement department within higher education

Five years demonstrated success in securing large contributions as part of individual
solicitations and campaigns

Must possess a strong understanding of the full spectrum of fundraising programs including
annual fund programs, alumni relations, major gifts and planned giving

Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills

Must possess a proven record of success in soliciting and securing major gifts

Must have ability to project a strong positive image of the University through personal
interaction with donors, alumni and friends

Demonstrated leadership and administrative and organizational skills such as strategic planning,
setting deadlines, and evaluating progress

Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate, and lead staff and volunteer

Must have ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other
cultures or backgrounds

Computer literacy, particularly related to word processing

Must have valid driver's license with good driving record as determined by WL Risk
Management via Motor Vehicle Records check
Preferred:

Master's degree

Experience in Higher Education business environment

Database management experience
