WOW!!
The Classen SAS Dance Department made $707
from the homemade tamale dinner at PTSA Meeting on Thursday night.
The Department voted to donate all of the proceeds to Project Parking Lot!!
The Dance Department has now donated over $1000 to Project
Parking Lot. Thank you teachers, parents and students for all you hard
work.
Now, Classen family...ask yourself: "What are YOU going to do??"
PTSA "WE NOTICED" AWARD
New award from the PTSA Board for Classen Staff.
The purpose is to honor Classen SAS staff who go above and beyond for Classen students,
staff that may otherwise go unnoticed.
November Winner: Vince Miller
You know him as the 6th grade math teacher . Vince Miller receives this
award for his tireless effort to improve the lives of his students, not JUST
their mastery of mathematical skills. He has often identified students with
needs that have gone unnoticed by everyone else (IE student who needs
glasses, student's who need help for food/clothing for their families etc). He
will identify a need, and then single-mindedly pursue a solution, making sure
that the need is meet. Thank you, Mr. Miller!!
December Winner Richard "Coach" Garrett
Veteran Classen baseball coach and teacher, Coach Garret came out of
retirement to answer a pressing need at Classen SAS. He serves as the
administration's eyes and ears during the MAPS construction, making sure
that student's stay where they need to stay during class time, and go where
they need to go in between classes. He lends an ear and a sturdy shoulder to
students in need. Respected and cherished by Classen students and staff,
Coach Garrett helps Classen every day.

Choir News
The Classen SAS High School Choirs and Orchestra will present The Messiah
by Handel on Thursday evening, December 1, 2011, at Crown Heights
Christian Church, 4020 N. Western, OKC, at 7:00pm. Admission is free.
Congratulations to the following Classen SAS High School Choir Students who
made All-State Choruses this year. Over 3000 students auditioned for 250 slots in
these choirs so it is quite an accomplishment and an honor for Classen SAS and
these students.

Classen Arts Festival!!
The CSAS All School Arts Festival is scheduled for Saturday April 21, 2012, noon
to 4pm. The students can participate by entering in the Banner, T-shirt and
poster contests. There will be prizes for the T-shirt and poster contest. All
school sponsored groups are encouraged to participate. They can sell food
items, club merchandise and /or provide entertainment.
Dates to watch for:
Banner entries are due no later than Dec 2, 2012 2:30pm in the main office.
Poster entries are due no later than Dec 2, 2012 2:30pm in the main office.
T-shirt entries are due no later than February 17th 2012 2:30 pm in the main office.
Finished Banners need to be turned in by February 17th.
Arts Festival Sponsors need to send in their sponsorship by February 24 to be on the T-shirt
and March 30th to be in the bulletin.
School sponsored group participation forms need to be turned in no later than March 30th.

How you can help: Show off your own talent and donate a piece of your original work. Do
you have a favorite massage therapist that might donate an hour massage? Are you skilled at
cleaning exterior second floor windows? Help your student create an item to sell for their
group. Have a favorite boutique that would donate something unique?

The 2012 Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at
Quartz Mountain
A two-week residential school that provides professional training to artistically talented
Oklahoma students in the visual, literary, and performing arts.
When: June 9 - 24, 2012
Where: The beautiful Quartz Mountain Arts and Conference Center in southwestern
Oklahoma.
Why: Learn from award-winning artists, immerse yourself in your art form, and let the
natural beauty of Quartz Mountain State Park inspire you!
How: Apply online and schedule an audition or interview. Online Application and
audition schedule available on Monday, December 12th.
To audition for this year's program, you must be at least 15 years old by September 1,
2012. (i.e. It's okay if you're 14 during the Summer Institute, but you must turn 15 by
September 1, 2012 to apply.) Graduating seniors up to age 19 are also eligible.
The Details: The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (OSAI) is an intensive academy for
Oklahoma high school students in the fields of acting, creative writing, ballet, modern
dance, orchestra, chorus, drawing and painting, photography, and film and video. OSAI
faculty artists include winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the Academy, Grammy, Emmy,
and Tony Awards. You'll join over 250 students from across the state as you study your
chosen field and attend or participate in performances, gallery openings, film
screenings, poetry readings, and more. Optional activities include nature hikes, karaoke
night, movie night, a talent show, and all-camp dances. You'll make lifelong friends and
study with amazing teachers for a summer experience you'll never forget.
How much does it cost to attend the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute?
All selected students attend the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute on full scholarships
worth over $2,000 each.Your scholarship includes tuition, room and board, equipment,
facilities, operating costs, and full-time security, nursing, counseling, and administrative
staffs.In addition to the $20 application fee, attending students must pay a $250 nonrefundable processing fee. Some disciplines, such as photography, require students to
provide supplies.

Belinda Georgia, Special Education, for her work interpreting, teaching, advocating, and
in general fussing over Classen SAS hearing impaired students .
September "We Noticed" Winner:
Linda Dorsey, new Kitchen Manager for her tireless work upgrading Classen Cafeteria
services and making a clean and inviting environment for our kids to eat in.
October "We Notice" Winner:
Latoya Keesee , front hall scanner, for her friendly and caring presence in all of our
Classen SAS kids lives.
Winners receive a gift card and Classen SAS PTSA grateful thanks for a job well done. We
notice what you do!!
