COTSWOLD ARCHAEOLOGY JOB SPECIFICATION Post Title: Illustrator Responsible to: Project Manager/Senior Illustrator Purpose: To undertake and ensure the successful completion of graphic work conforming to the Cotswold Archaeology house style, working within budget and to deadline. Main Duties: Undertake and ensure the successful completion of archaeological illustration projects for client reports and corporate publications, conforming to the CA house style, and working within budget and to deadline; Produce archaeological illustrations and other graphic work conforming to the CA house style using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD and other illustration software; Produce scale illustrations of archaeological finds to publication standard using Adobe graphics software; Assist in the production of desk-top publications using Adobe InDesign and other DTP software; Undertake the production of GIS projects using ESRI ArcGIS software; Design and prepare corporate marketing material in order to develop a greater public awareness and appreciation of the work of CA; Communicate and negotiate effectively and courteously with colleagues, identifying when issues need to be escalated to Senior Illustrator; Manage personal workload, prioritising and escalating issues to Deputy Senior Illustrator as appropriate; Assist the Senior Illustrator in providing guidance and training to seconded or project-specific staff undertaking illustration duties, and provide mentoring for Assistant Illustrators; Ensure that all projects are carried out in accordance with the CA Health and Safety policy; Contribute to departmental processes and working practices via Learning Reports, feedback to Committee Representatives and suggestions for new and improved practices; Carry out any other duties commensurate with responsibilities as the company may determine from time to time. Illustrator March 2015 Person specification: Essential Proven expertise in the production of archaeological illustrations using Adobe graphics software; Proven expertise in the production of scale illustrations of archaeological finds using Adobe graphics software; Proven expertise in the use of AutoCAD and other computer-aided design packages; Excellent time management ability ensuring successful delivery of a busy and varied work programme; The ability to work flexibly as part of a team within a busy open-plan office environment, and communicate effectively with colleagues across all CA offices; The ability to deal efficiently and courteously with sponsors and clients of Cotswold Archaeology, officers of other bodies, and members of the public. Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists at least ACIfA level (or able to demonstrate that you meet the requirements for membership). Candidates who are not already a member of the Institute must be prepared to join immediately upon appointment. Desirable Experience in the use of ESRI ArcGIS software; Experience in preparing desk-top publications using Adobe InDesign and other DTP software; Membership of the CIfA GAG special interest group; Experience in geomatics, field survey and archaeological fieldwork; Ability to train, coach and mentor other members of staff; Initiative and commitment to CPD; A full clean manual driving licence.
