Congratulations to the 2015 GSW High School Queen and
Grundy County Corn Festival 1st Runner up: Ali Kirk
Any student who would like to suggest some music choices for the upcoming dance, should
see one of their class officers before the 6th.
Date request forms for the Autumn Ball need to be in by Oct. 13th. Date request forms can
be picked up in the main office.
Congratulations to Jennaveve Johnston on being chosen as GAVC's September Director
Award Winner for Early Childhood.
SADD Members = Please see Ms. Spiezio to get your (3) Carson Days Coupon Books. You
must sell ALL (3) booklets at $5.00 each by Tues, Nov. 10th.
DO YOU LIKE FOOD? DO YOU WANT A PARTY OF YOUR CHOICE OR AN ICE
CREAM PARTY? If so, participate in the Food Drive! Starting THIS WEEK - September 28October 2 will be the Annual Food Drive sponsored by the National Honor Society. All items
collected are donated to the Church of Hope located in Gardner for families in our community
that are in need. Many families are struggling at this time and any items collected will be greatly
appreciated by the church and families. Let’s take our Panther Pride and bring items and have
fun with your class in a “friendly” competition, while helping families in need!
Double Point Days included:
 Tuesday = Snacks (fruit snacks, sweets, etc)
 Wednesday = Pastas (anything associated with pastas – sauce, noodles, etc)
 Thursday = Boxed Goods (crackers, gushers, fruit snacks, etc)
 Friday = Canned Goods
Prizes:
1st Place = Party of your choice!
2nd Place = Ice Cream Party!

Ali Manzello, Brittany Seybert, Colton Hebert (2), and Victoria Kezerle-Cole your library books
are overdue. Please renew or return them today.
NOTICE = Kankakee Road from Stonewall Road to Goodfarm Road will be CLOSED to traffic
for approximately 3-weeks. The road will be opened to local residents and emergency vehicles
only. No detour signs will be posted. If you have any questions, please call the Grundy County
Highway Department at 1-815-942-0363.
If any SENIORS have not turned in proof of receiving the meningococcal shot, please do so.
This was supposed to be done BEFORE the start of the school year. Please have this completed
and turned into the guidance office ASAP!
If any FRESHMEN have not turned in their physical, please so do. This was supposed to be
turned in by the First Day of School. Please turn into the guidance office ASAP!
CLUBS:
MATH team = Practices will start in October. Our first competition is November 18th.
SADD students = Sign up with Ms. Spiezio to work TAG DAY for the South Willy garage
sales on Sat, Oct 10th. FOUR students are needed to work 1-hour and we need to cover 8:00 AM
until 2:00 PM, so we need 24 students to sign up (unless someone wants to work a double shift).
You will be standing at the 4way stop with a bucket asking for donations for Prom Lock-in and
giving each vehicle a sucker with a positive SADD message on it.
SPORTS:
There is a girls’ basketball open gym TODAY (Tuesday) from 4:30-6:00 PM for any girls
interested.

Varsity: GSW 25, 25 Dwight 16, 22
The Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers (11-4, 4-2) defeated Dwight 25-16 and 2522. Leading the Lady Panthers was Marlana Ferrari with 7 kills and Lexi Robison
added 6. Emily Hopwood and Celia Barna each added 2 service aces with Sydney
Perkins distributing 10 assists and Barna 9. Jenni Price led with 7 digs.
Junior Varsity: GSW 24, 15 Dwight 26, 25
The Junior Varsity team (8-7, 4-2) fell to Dwight 24-26 and 15-25. Leading the Lady
Panthers was Kaylee Steichen with 7 service aces and Delaney Miner added 5.
Maddie Schuck had 3 stuff blocks and Mariah Anderson added a kill.
Tuesday: Boys Soccer @ Westmont 4:30 PM
Wednesday: No Events Scheduled
Thursday: Volleyball @ Tri-Point 5:30 JV followed by Varsity
Friday: Golf @ Grant Park Invite 1:00 PM; Varsity Football @ South Newton (IN) 7: 00 PM.
Please excuse football players at 2:40. Bus will leave at2:45.
Saturday: Cross-Country at TVC Meet (Clifton Central) 11:00 AM
The athletic department is looking for one SPIRITED individual to carry the Panther Spirit Flag
at some home events. If interested, contact Coach Gibson.
Boys Basketball Open Gyms This Week: Tuesday & Thursday 6:30-8:30 PM. If you need
another open gym schedule, please contact Coach Gibson ASAP.
Varsity Volleyball Attitude Photos are in! The cost is $6.00. See Mrs. Heerdt to purchase.
Athletic Season Passes are available for purchase. Please contact Coach Gibson to purchase a
pass.
GUIDANCE:
Students, if you are interested in being involved with a county wide youth philanthropy group
stop by the guidance office for more information. This is a great opportunity to get involved!
If you are interested in the College of Aces at University of Illinois stop by the guidance office to
pick up information on an Open House being held in Chicago on Saturday, October 10th. RSVPs
are due by October 1st.
Financial Aid Night has been set for 6 pm on Wednesday, January 27th in the cafeteria. This is a
very important informational meeting for any student planning to attend college.
JJC COMPASS Testing has been set for 8 am on Thursday, February 18th at GSW.
Seniors - If you have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher during your high school career, are a
leader and role model in your school and community, and participate in one of 43 eligible sports
you should consider applying for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Application are
available at www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com. Applications are due by 3 pm on October
2nd.
Juniors and Seniors - If you are interested in a week long program on government and leadership
this March taking place in Washington DC, stop by the guidance office to get application
information or visit www.ussenateyouth.org.
JJC will be hosting a College Fair on Wednesday, October 14th from 5:30-8pm. There will be at
least 126 colleges in attendance!! Flyers for the event will be available in the guidance
office next Friday.
Washington University in St. Louis will host Admissions Information Sessions on Sunday,
October 18th. For more information, please stop by the guidance office or visit
admissions.wustle.edu.
If you are interested in attending a private college in Wisconsin, please stop by the guidance
office to pick up an admission and financial aid guide.
If you are planning to take the ACT register at www.actstudent.org. See Ms. Kilmer if you need
assistance.
