STUDENTS:
Reminder - ACT prep class payment WAS due Friday, December 12th. If you have not
already done so, please get your payment to Ms. Kilmer ASAP.
The next ACT Test date is February 7th with a registration deadline of January 9th. Visit
www.act.org to register.
Attention Juniors! If you ordered a class shirt for homecoming they are ready to be picked
up! Please see Mrs. Leigh to get your shirt! Also, if you would like to work on the
homecoming walls we will be meeting after school Wednesday!
Gabby Ozee and Sydney Bartels you are responsible for "split the pot" at the home girls
basketball game Thursday, January 8th. The Varsity game starts at 5:45 pm, please arrive
at 5:30pm. Any questions please see Mrs. Leigh!
Reminder Juniors - ACT Prep class will start at 7 am on Wednesday, January 7th in Mrs.
Leigh's room, 212. If you have not paid yet see Ms. Kilmer TODAY.
Attention students and staff next week (12th – 17th) is Homecoming Week. This year’s
theme in "Come Home For the Holidays" The following are the dress days for the week.
We want to see everyone dressing up and having fun.
 Monday: P.J. Day
 Tuesday: Tacky Tourist or Crazy Sports Fan day
 Wednesday: Holiday Day = Dress in your classes holiday....Freshmen: St. Patty's
Day, Sophomores: Valentine’s day, Juniors: 4th of July and Seniors: Christmas.
Staff you pick any holiday you want
 Thursday: Class Color Day: Fr: Green, So: Pink, Jrs.: Red, white and blue and
Srs.: Neon on color, Staff: Black
 Friday: Spirit day
Tickets for the dance will be on sale next week during lunch. Tickets will be $5.00 per
person.
All students bringing dates who are not from GSW will need to fill out a date request form
and turn it in to the office by next Wednesday.
ALL STUDENTS WHO DO NOT ATTEND GSW HIGH SCHOOL WILL BE ASKED
TO SHOW A PICTURE ID BEFORE ENTERING THE DANCE. NO ID, NO ENTER!!!!

The Mason's Lodge will host its’ Annual Chili Supper on Friday, January 23rd from 4 - 8 PM.
Proceeds from this event fund the Mason's Scholarship and Scholastic Bowl Tournaments.
Please come out and support this great event. Volunteers are needed to help with this event. Set
up will begin at 3 pm. The chili supper will take place from 4 - 8 pm.
GSW has scheduled a Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, January 28th at 6:00 pm. David
Seward, from Joliet Junior College, will be in the GSW cafeteria to present very important
information on funding your college education. All Seniors and their parents are strongly
encouraged to attend.

The First NHS meeting of the new semester will be Tuesday January 13th at 7:30am in 305.
The 2nd semester Driver Ed parent meeting is Wednesday January 21st at 6:00 pm. All 2nd
semester Driver Ed parents are encouraged to attend.
Attention Math Team Members! Our next competition is next week on Wednesday,
January 14th at Reed Custer High School. We will have practices on the following days over
the next two weeks from 3-3:30pm:
 Tuesday, January 6th - Freshmen
 Thursday, January 8th - Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors
 Monday, January 12th - Freshmen
 Tuesday, January 13th -Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors
SADD: There are many opportunities for you to earn points - I am in need of students and
parents for upcoming home basketball game concessions. Please see Mrs. Scaccia in Room 101
if you are interested in signing up.
GUIDANCE:
Any senior interested in pursuing a career in Aviation or the golf industry, see the Guidance
Office for more information.
The Local Masonic Lodge is offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior planning to
attend a 4-year college - 2-year junior college - or an accredited trade school or vocational
training program. Please see the Guidance Office for more information.
Any senior interested in a career as a RAD tech, which is a great career opportunity if you want
to stay local, please see the guidance office.
Any senior wishing to continue their education at an accredited vocational/technical school, there
is a scholarship opportunity. Please see guidance office for more info.
Any Senior interested in a career with IBEW Local #176 see guidance office for application
information.
Any Senior Girl pursuing a career in Education, Delta Kappa Gamma is offering a $1000
scholarship. Please see guidance office for more information!
Seniors - If you plan to attend JJC next year be sure to apply for scholarships! Visit
www.jjc.edu/scholarships to get started. If you need more information stop by the guidance
office and pick up a flyer.
JJC offers FAFSA workshops starting February 11 and running thru March 25. Visit the JJC
website or stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer with specific information. Last year
FAFSA money ran out February 28th. Be sure to apply early for your best chance to receive
financial aid.
Anyone interested in attending a National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine, please see
guidance office.
There are a lot of new scholarships available to graduating seniors. For more information see the

Any SENIORS interested in a career as a John Deere technician, Lakeland College has an
Agriculture Open House on March 6, 2015. For more information, stop by the Guidance Office.
Students if you are interested in learning more about Nuclear Programs offered through State
Tech College in Missouri (formerly Linn State) sign up in the guidance office ASAP.
Completing this program could lead to a position at one of the local nuclear power plants.
JUNIORS- IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT JOINING THE AIR FORCE MARCH 2015DECEMBER 2015 THIS IS WHEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO START APPLYING. IF YOU
HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE SEE MS. KILMER.
Students - If you plan to play a sport at the college level make sure you meet with Ms. Kilmer to
discuss the NCAA Clearinghouse. Student athletes at a Division I, II, or III institute must meet
rigorous academic requirements. Together we can review the courses you have taken and those
you plan to take to make sure you meet the necessary criteria.
If you plan to go to JJC before transferring to a 4 year college and you want to make sure that
your taking the classes that will transfer correctly you can attend a Transfer Success Info
Session. They are offered one Tuesday and Wednesday a month. For more information, please
visit www.jjc.edu/info/transfer.
Students, if you are interest in attending the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA),
a residential program, visit www.imsa.edu or stop by the guidance office for more information.
Applications are due February 1st, 2015.
If you are interested in attending an open house at the Midwest College of Cosmetology and
Esthetics stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer. Open house dates are = January 31st,
and March 28th from 10 am - 1 pm.
Seniors - The JJC 2015 Fall Application is Now Available Online!!!!!!!
Seniors - If you are an outstanding student athlete you should apply for the Wendy's High School
Heisman at www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com. Students must have at least a B grade point
average, participate in one qualified sport, and demonstrate active involvement in the
community. Winners receive recognition during ESPN's national telecast of the college Heisman
Memorial Trophy presentation; a trophy & patch; $10,000 for their school; and a $500 Wendy's
gift card. Stop by the guidance office for more information.
Juniors and Seniors - If you are interested in the United States Senate Youth Program which will
be held in Washington DC March 7 - 14 stop by the guidance office for more information.
