Encaustic Painting

1 Saturday March 28 9am – 2pm

Explore Encaustic Painting, an ancient method, which combines oil paints, varnish and beeswax to create a textural painting of remarkable color. The paint/wax mixture is applied with a palette knife, then heated until it melts and flows. This class is for beginner and intermediate painters. Bring oil paints if you have them and a lunch.

Whether you are a beginner or an accomplished painter, this is the painting class for you! For those of you who don’t know Kathy, she’s a gifted artist, but equally important to her students, she’s a patient, empowering instructor. You will learn a lot from her calm, skilled approach! Oil painters bring oil paints, no-odor turpentine and Liquin gel medium. Acrylic painters bring acrylic paints, acrylic gel medium. Everyone bring brushes, pallet knife and a canvas, board or whatever surface you wish to paint on. Bring images if you want them for reference. Register early, class size is limited to 12 students.

Drawing

4 Thursdays April 30-May 21 st 6:30-8:30pm

Drawing is a foundational skill for an artist, like reading and writing. If an artist cannot draw well, that artist cannot paint or sculpt well whether realistically or abstractly. This four session course will provide a variety of drawing experiences for the student. Each session will feature a demonstration by the instructor, classroom exercises, individual and group critiques, study of master drawings, and homework opportunities.

Students will bring 18x24 inch paper and vine charcoal.

Beyond Basic Crochet- Amigurumi (Ahh me goo ree me)

2 Thursday Apr 16 & 23 6-8pm

The Japanese art of crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. In other words is just plain fun! If you have basic crochet skills you’ll love this fast and fanciful technique. Each week you will learn how to make a new amigurumi friend.

Student must bring a skein of cotton yarn and F,G, or H crochet hook.

Stained Glass Seminar

This hands-on class introduces students to copper-foil method (Tiffany style) stained glass craft by completing a small project. You will design a small sun-catcher, select and cut the glass, grind each piece, foil them and then solder the glass pieces together. All supplies provided.

Basic Bookbinding

3 Sundays June 7,14 and 21 st 1-4pm

Learn a variety of bookbinding stitches, like the Western Case, pamphlet stitch and various Japanese binding techniques. You will learn how to transform an old book into a sketchbook or journal by replacing the old printed pages with freshly bound blank paper. You will also make small soft cover books. Bring a bone folder.

ART al a Carte!

Gather four to six of your friends for a private 3-hour class. Choose from stained glass, soap making, soaps for dogs, bath salts, soap felting, flirty flip-flops, clay pinch pots, or mosaic mirror.
