For those of you who don’t know Kathy, she’s a gifted artist, but equally important to her students, she’s a patient, empowering instructor. You will learn a lot from her calm, skilled approach! Oil painters bring oil paints, no-odor turpentine and Liquin gel medium. Acrylic painters bring acrylic paints, acrylic gel medium. Everyone bring brushes, pallet knife and a canvas, board or whatever surface you wish to paint on. Bring images if you want them for reference. Register early, class size is limited to eight students. Instructor: Fee: Kathleen Laybourn MFA $70 per session Stained Glass Seminar 1 Sunday May 19 9am-1pm This hands-on class introduces students to copper-foil method (Tiffany style) stained glass craft by completing a small project. You will design a small sun-catcher, select and cut the glass, grind each piece, foil them and then solder the glass pieces together. All supplies provided. Instructor: Supply fee: Fee: Melanie Hovey $5 to instructor $50 Hidden Treasure Book 2 Sundays June 2 - 9 1pm – 5pm Students will cut apart a book and redesign it into a hidden treasure book. The book will be recovered in book cloth and the hidden recess inside will be covered in decorative papers and other decorative elements. Please bring a bone folder. Instructor: Supply fee: Fee: Lisa Bigalke MFA $15 to instructor $70 1 Sunday May 26 1pm-5pm Learn to create your own decorative paper using wheat flour, pigment, stamps, and tools. Students should bring 10-15 sheets of heavy (140#) large (16x20+) paper. Materials fee covers wheat paste, paints & dyes, stamps and ink setters. Instructor: Supply fee: Fee: Lisa Bigalke MFA $10 to instructor $50 Concertina Books 2 Sundays April 28 – May 5 1-5pm Ceramics 6 Wednesdays April 10 – May 15 6pm - 8:30pm Designed for beginning ceramics students, this class is structured like a workshop so that intermediate students can work independently with the guidance of a skilled instructor close at hand. You’ll be introduced to clay, while learning many of the methods used for building, surface decoration, glazing, and finishing hand-built pottery or sculpture. Instructor: Supply fee: Fee: Samantha Nelson MFA candidate $2/lb clay, includes glaze/firing $75 Students will learn to bind hard cover concertina books. Concertina books make great archival photo albums and memento scrapbooks. This exposed spine binding is very flexible when adding thicker objects. Please bring a bone folder. Instructor: Supply fee: Fee: Lisa Bigalke MFA $25 to instructor $70 Encaustic Painting Seminar 1 Saturday June 29 9am - 2 pm Encaustic is an ancient method, which combines oil paints, varnish and beeswax to create a textural painting of remarkable color. The paint/wax mixture is applied with a palette knife, then heated until it melts and flows. This class is for beginner and intermediate painters. Bring oil paints if you have them, and a lunch (there will not be time to leave.) We now have ongoing partnerships with Washington Middle School, social service organizations, and host Clayground 3 times each week. Our plan for 2013 is to schedule fewer, more specialized classes for teens/adults. We will continue to offer excellent painting, book arts, ceramics classes and more. Always check our website for additional classes. Lemon Street Clayground Come make art in our open ceramics studio, Clayground! It is open Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6pm-9pm, and starting April 7th, Sundays, Noon to 3pm. It is free; you just buy our clay for $2 per pound, which includes glazes and firing. We have tools you can borrow, or you can bring your own. Clayground is open studio time for those who are 16 and older with some experience working with clay. No instruction is provided. Children under age 16 may attend when accompanied by an adult who will stay to supervise their art-making. The clay studio in downstairs, to which there is no elevator.
