I have information to provide to you that I hope will be helpful. Each year we grow with the changes that occur. We will have new staff members beginning with us in the fall. With the retirements of Nina Koch and Emily Klug, we have Laura Garfield ready to teach second grade and Cassandra Remer continuing from her long term substitute position as our fifth grade teacher. With the growing population of Wakanda Elementary School, we are no longer able to share their specialist staff. Our new Art teacher is Megan Shervey. Physical Education will be taught by Nathan Bauer, and Apryl Price will be joining our team as Music instructor. When your child comes back to school, he/she will be able to enjoy the comfort of our new air conditioning system. Knapp Elementary has also had its roof replaced. It has been a very busy summer in the Menomonie School District! You will find the link to the online forms for the beginning of the year on the district homepage. If you are unable to complete them online at home, computers will be available in the computer lab for use on September 2nd during Orientation Day. We have an exciting year planned for your child and we look forward to partnering with you as we provide your child an excellent education. Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation and if you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at 715-665-2131. Sincerely, Kristin Humphrey Principal The School District of the Menomonie Area, by embracing the unique needs and using the strengths of our diverse community, is dedicated to preparing ALL people to be life-long learners, caring individuals and responsible citizens. Knapp Elementary Student/Parent Orientation Tuesday, September 2, 2014 This year we will have three time slots for students and parents to visit on Orientation Day. Each time slot will be one and a half hours. During the first twenty minutes of the time slot we are asking all families to meet in the gym for an informational meeting. After the meeting students will go to their classrooms to meet with their teachers, put supplies away, etc. During this time you can also stop in the office to pay the Tech Fee of $15.00 per student. Please fill out required forms either online before your visit or while at school in our computer lab. We are hoping that you will be able to visit at your scheduled time. If, however you can’t and must come at another time, please be sure to be present for the beginning of the time slot you are attending. (This number should not be shared with anyone and remains the same each year.) The Family Is Critical To Student Achievement The evidence is now beyond dispute. When schools work together with families to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school, but also throughout life. In fact, the most accurate predictors of a student’s achievement in school is not income or social status, but the extent to which a student’s family is able to create a home environment that encourages learning, expresses high (but realistic) expectations for their children’s achievement and future careers, and becomes involved in their children’s education at school and in the community. When parents are involved in their children’s education at home, their children do better in school. When parents are involved at school their children go farther in school, and the schools they go to become better. (From The Family is Critical to Student Achievement by Ann Henderson and Nancy Berta.) (Please use the attached checklist for Elementary School supplies)
