Sustainability Efforts During our Lunches 1. Recycling of a. Cans, milk cartons, soda tabs 2. Reuse of a. Unopened milk, juice, graham crackers (donated to the school nurse as well as the local church’s food bank) 3. Student Council has been working to replace the Styrofoam trays with reusable trays: a. We are piloting the use of reusable trays with the teachers lunch first, so far a success. 4. Grizzly Garden a. Provides fresh vegetables to the café for use in preparing teacher lunches and specials Goals of the Café Program 1. Reduce the amount of Styrofoam waste used in the café. Starting with the teachers as a pilot and increase the use of reusable trays in the new school year 2. Increase the amount of recycling that takes place in the café. Teaching our students the importance of recycling starting at school. Having students assisting with the recycling during lunch helps encourage their peers to recycle. 3. Provide outside community church with food for those that are needed within the community. 4. Fresh vegetables from our school garden is a great way to promote healthy eating among our teachers and decreases the amount of plastic waste when purchasing food from outside vendors.
