Essential Question Who played a significant role in the American Revolution and what was the individual’s contribution? Objective Students will identify important people of the Revolutionary War. Standards: SS4H4: The student will explain the causes, events, and results of the American Revolution. a. Trace the events that shaped the revolutionary movement in America, including the French and Indian War, British Imperial Policy that led to the 1765 Stamp Act, the slogan “no taxation without representation,” the activities of the Sons of Liberty, and the Boston Tea Party. b. Explain the writing of the Declaration of Independence; include who wrote it, how it was written, why it was necessary, and how it was a response to tyranny and the abuse of power. c. Describe the major events of the American Revolution and explain the factors leading to American victory and British defeat; include the Battles of Lexington and Concord, Saratoga, and Yorktown. d. Describe key individuals in the American Revolution with emphasis on King George III, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Benedict Arnold, Patrick Henry, and John Adams. This should be a person that you are somewhat unfamiliar with and one that you find interesting. Be sure that you can locate enough quality information on the person before making your decision. Choose one of the following products to create on the individual. Use the attached graphic organizer to record your information. You may/may not use all parts of the organizer, but make it useful to fit your research information. Choice #1: Bio Cube Using your completed graphic organizer and the following guide, create a bio cube to share information about your chosen person. Side 1: your name, famous person’s name, date and place of birth and death, two symbols to represent your person ex: battery symbolizes ability to keep going, candle represents vigilance Side 2: picture of your person and five awesome adjectives to describe the person Side 3: Why was this person important to the American Revolution? Side 4: interesting facts/famous quote/character traits/accomplishments/honors received Side 5: personal information (early/late life, family) Side 6: list of resources/life lesson – something you learned from this person, things you admire about the person Choice #2: Paper Doll Using the paper doll template, create a paper doll to mimic your famous person. Remember to use clothing that relates to your famous person. Use the templates for clothing. You will keep your paper doll in a manila pocket folder.
