Peachland Community Arts Council Annual General Meeting Tuesday, 5 May, 2015 Board Member Regrets: Doug Armitage, Phyllis Papineau, Joan Dupuis, and Chris Byrd 1. Deb Livingstone welcomed those attending and thanked the PCAC Board for all the hard work they have produced in the past year. She also thanked the umbrella organizations for their continued support. 2. Setting up the Gallery and during the Hearts Festival particularly. She gave us an overview of the Gallery mentioning the three successful shows we have presented to date and commended those who volunteered to make it all possible. Treasurer’s Report: (Attached) Lynne reported that the PCAC financial situation has greatly changed with the acquisition of the Gallery, grants from the District, Telus, and various donations. The financial statement is on our web site and on Revenue Canada web site as well. We have set aside a $5000. Contingency fund Motion: Janet/Wayne That the Treasurer’s Report be accepted 5. Committee Reports a. Deb’s Chairman’s Report included a short overview of the setting up of the new Peachland Art Gallery, and the recent Hearts Festival, two of the major undertakings of the past year. She mentioned that we now have 16 umbrella organizations, have doubled our membership fees and received a substantial grant from the District to help operate the Gallery. Both the Hearts Festival and the Gallery events are growing rapidly and plans for the summer include in house artists painting and an art walk link with the Little Schoolhouse. b. Peachland Little Schoolhouse (attached) Donna reported that the PLS is planning for the Summer Arts Program the biggest annual community event of this Society. The landscaping and building maintenance is underway for the spring. c. Pincushion Quilters Guild has had a success year, made 45 quilts for the Women’s Shelter; they have 35 members and a waiting list; and have had a number of workshops, including a visit from a chiropractor to advise them on proper practice when sewing for hours. PCAC 2015 1 d. e. f. g. h. i. j. k. l. Deb reported that Shirley Hildebrand’s “mini pow wow will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 23, at Fourth Street Place. All Nations Senior Society Dian reported on the Peachland Art Group; they have 72 members and a waiting list due to lack of space; they had 5 workshops this year and are preparing for the 55th Annual Art Show this May 23 & 24. The theme is “Hidden Treasures” Dian also writes a column for the Peachland View “the arts scene’ focussed on PCAC events. Telus Grants: Debbie Elliot reported that she has organized 10 art workshops sponsored by a $7500 grant from Telus. They have given us another $5000 for this year and she is looking for artists to conduct workshops. Harmony Tree: Wayne reported on this mosaic project from Peachland’s Centennial which will be preserved in cement in Heritage Park this year. All original participating students will be invited to attend ceremony. Variety Singers: Wayne read Phyllis Papineau’s report on this group’s successful participation in Chorfest, and various other engagements locally. They have 42 members... Fall Fair: This is the 96th year of the Peachland Fall Fair; the theme is “have a beary good time” and will feature Bears (the Teddy Bears’ Picnic). All information is on the Peachland.ca website, and the yearly information booklet The Village Potters Phyllis O’Connell tells us they have been promised a new home and the District is currently paying storage on their equipment. PCAC Website (attached) Deb read this report indicating a yearly increase in visitors, the literary page is very popular, also the “artist of the month” Chris also does a weekly broadcast on the local digital radio station - Okanaganradio.com 6. Continuing Business a. Gallery Update: currently the Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday 10-4 pm; in July it will be open 7 days a week, 8 hours the same hours as the Visitor Center. The exhibits are booked until mid-January of 2016. There will be a special “Artists in Studio” show in August/Sept featuring a number of local artists working in the Gallery and with art walks between the Gallery and Little Schoolhouse. b. Gaming Grant the application is close to submission and would cover operating costs, and help with the Gallery Showcase, Hearts Festival, Summer Program and the Educational Workshops if it is achieved. c. Central Okanagan Foundation has recently eased their requirements and cover different costs. Peachland has sent $12,000 a year for many years and rarely has any Peachland organization qualified to receive a grant. Deb has met with the COF representative and we are hoping to get a three year grant to cover a paid coordinator d. User Agreement/Chamber of Commerce: Wayne, Chris, Lynne and Deb will negotiate with the Chamber re a new agreement (the current one expires 10 June). 7. New Business: a. Deb Livingstone was given the Mayor’s Award of Merit at the local Municipal Awards Night for her service to the community. b. Vi Brown of the Literary Group has published a book “Who’s Who in Peachland” and was congratulated on her achievement. 8.
